Apprehensive about ‘Peepli Live’s’ ousted from the top nine shortlisted films in the Foreign Language Film category in the 83rd Academy Awards, the producer of the film, Aamir Khan commented that though he is upset with the ousted, he is happy that they represented India.

Believe it or not, ‘Peepli Live’ was the only film representing India, out of a list of 27 films, which even included ‘Raajneeti’ and ‘Udaan’.

"Slumdog..." team gets rousing reception

The Oscar winning team of “Slumdog Millionaire” was greeted with cheers and tears of joy on its return from Los Angeles at the Mumbai airport on Thursday.

“This award is a gift for every Indian,” said Oscar winning sound engineer Resul Pookutty, as he arrived here today after the glorious victory at the Oscars for the movie. He won the Oscar for Best Sound Mixing in the movie “Slumdog Millionaire”.

The Oscar glory for “Smile Pinki” has brought in a new ray of hope for at least one million Indian kids suffering from cleft lip and palate. The film that bagged an Academy Award at the Oscars has brought to fore the plight of children with cleft palates in India.

The doctors hope the film’s nomination for Oscar will help the kids suffering from cleft lip and enable them come out of their shells.

The plastic surgeon who performed corrective surgery on Pinki Sonkar, the protagonist of the documentary, feels the award is for thousands of little cleft-lipped girls who live with emotional scars throughout their lives. “This award is not just for Pinki but for the thousands of Pinkis who are waiting to emerge out of a life of anonymity,” stated an elated Subodh Kumar Singh after the ceremony in Los Angeles.

The slum kids, who have never imagined of boarding a plane, have flown off for the red carpet walk at the Oscars.

“Slumdog Millionaire” kids Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Ismail were too excited with their tickets to Oscars. Their life has taken a fairytale twist just like the Danny Boyle film, which has bagged 10 nominations at the 81st Academy Awards.

Few days back, due to financial reasons, their dream of attending the most glamorous event of the world, Oscar, was jeopardized.
