'Yamla Pagla Deewana' is a paisa-vasool entertainer
Starring: Dharmendra, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Kulraj Randhawa, and Anupam Kher
Director: Samir Karnik
Producer: Top Angle Production
Genre: Comedy/Drama
USP of the movie is Dharmendra’s trademark style which is spiced up by Sunny and Bobby Deol. The Punjabi tadka is evident throughout the movie.
"Duniyawaalon! Iss kahaani mein Comedy hai! Action hai! Romance hai! Drama hai! Melodrama hai! Emotion hai!... Aur saala bahut saara Confusion hai!!,” informs Dharmendra.
Director Samir Karnik’s ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’ or YPD is an amalgamation of B-Town flicks like ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gum’, ‘Main Hoon Na’, ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Gayenge’, ‘Haseena Maan Jayegi’ to name a few.
But still the humor is really funny, punches are real and sound good, acting is marvelous, and to top it all the three male characters have enliven the characters.
Synopsis
Coming to the story, YPD models on the son lost in childhood, found in youth saga. Vancouver-based banker Paramveer (Sunny Deol) wants to reunite with long-lost father Dharam (Dharmendra) and his younger brother Gajodhar (Bobby Deol).
A chance encounter reunites the trio in the very starting of the movie and from there on starts the hilarious ride of the three jatts that takes the audience from holy city of Banaras to the lush-green fields of Punjab, where Gajodhar falls in love with a ‘punjabi mutiyaar’.
Now things turn difficult when Saheba’s (Kulraj Randhawa) five-notorious brothers plunge into center stage and find the elder brother more suitable for their sister. But Paramveer is already married to a foreigner and is a father of two naughty kids.
What follows is hilarious punches, some peppy dance numbers, confusion, and a lot of drama that the audience will enjoy to the hilt.
It is truly said that when in Punjab, do as Punjabis do, for the present movie is a brilliant take on the fun-loving Punjabis.
Final verdict
Though Dharmendra and Bobby are good, ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’ belongs to Sunny Deol. Even Kulraj is looking ravishingly hot.
Overall, it is a one not-to-be-missed entertainer recommended for all those looking for a good refreshing experience coupled with some great comedy.
