Boney Kapoor’s ‘Milenge Milenge’, which took baby steps towards the release after a span of five years, has finally hit 1,200 screens today. ‘Milenge Milenge’ which saw the light of the day, says nothing new.
Milenge MilengeDirector: Satish Kaushik
Cast: Kareena Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, Aarti Chhabria, Delnaaz Paul, Satish Shah, Kirron Kher
Producer: Boney Kapoor
Music: Himesh Reshammiya
Director Satish Kaushik seems to have lost the flair to weave a good romantic drama as the romantic portions in the movie doesn’t ooze realistic love.
The appeal of the film is also not enhanced by the lead pair, Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor, as their fantastic on-screen chemistry, which was visible in their earlier blockbuster ‘Jab We Met’, is tepid in this film.
Moreover, the film is more of incident driven than character driven thus, the lead pair cannot be blamed for their missing chemistry.
Story-line
The story is one that you’ve watched often- two people, who are polar opposites, meet at Bangkok. Kareena plays the character of Priya. Her character in the film is a warm-hearted beauty looking out for her fairytale husband, according to predictions made by the tarot card reader Sunita Rao (played by Kirron Kher).
Priya gets a chance to encounter with her future man Amit (played by Shahid Kapoor) in the Youth festival in Bangkok, within seven days as per the predictions.
Meanwhile, both of them fall in love though they do not conceal their true feelings for each other. Finally after several meetings, Priya understands but gets a shock when she comes to know that Immy was just lying and he’s not the perfect man that she had etched in her heart. Amit all along had pretended to be a seemingly nice person, who abstains from bad habits.
On the flip side, Priya realizes that this relationship is not meant to be and rushes off without leaving any contact details. The romantic pair drifts apart. Then the movie shifts to few years later, where Amit and Priya come face to face once more, with each other about to be wed to different individuals.
Is this the mere coincidence of destiny? Will this fateful couple forgive and reunite, is the interesting twist in the movie.
Bottom-line
‘Milenge Milenge’ is mildly funny-romantic film to spend an evening. The narration and interesting twist does add pep but only the clichéd climax is tiring.
Moreover, the film carries some of the same standard tool of a pure love story with traces of comedy, misunderstanding and repentance.
Some of the sequences are repetitive of typical Bollywood films but the film is fairly engaging.
As for the music, Himesh Reshammiya does spell romance and add an authentic feel to the film.
