"Straight": Not a gay movie

Vinay Pathak, Gul Panag, Anuj Choudhry

Recent Bollywood hits “Dostana” and “Fashion” highlighted the concept of homosexuality in Hindi films, and latest addition to this is Parvathi Balagopalan’s “Straight - Ek tedi meri love story”.

“Straight”, starring Vinay Pathak, Gul Panag and Anuj Choudhry, is about a young man, Pinu, who’s confused about his sexual orientation.

The title and promos of film may confuse audience and one can assume that the film would look at gays, the relationships, the emotions etc., but it doesn't. The film is not a gay movie. As opposed to it, “Straight” is about a restaurateur who’s a virgin and a homophobe. Plus, he’s confused about his sexual preferences.

The film could've explored the subject matter in a better way but unfortunately, the film lacks good screenplay. The film looks dry and lifeless and goes on and on and on...till it forces the viewer out of the theater.

The good bits of the film include the organized, clean and crisp narrative with London providing a subtly sensuous setting to characters who are anything but subtle or sensuous.
