Mahesh Bhatt is one of the renowned director and producer of the 1980s. Bhatt is known for his films based on real life scenarios and current happenings. Virgo by sun sign, he was born on Sept. 20, 1948.
Hailing from a background rich in well-known directors, directing and producing is in his genes. His father Nanabhai Bhatt is a Hindi film producer-director. His father is a Gujarati Hindu and his mother is a Shia Muslim.
Nanabhai’s brother, Blawant Bhatt was also a film director. Bhatt began his career working under director Raj Khosla. The movie ‘Sakat’ marked his directorial debut.
He depicted his personal life on the silver screen with the movie ‘Arth’ which was a swashbuckling hit. Bhatt went on to direct more movies based on real life themes ranging from illegitimate birth to extramarital affair, which lead to critically acclaimed films like ‘Janam’ and ‘Naam’.
One of his exceptional films from his earlier period is ‘Saaransh’, a topsy-turvy journey of an old couple's anxieties in a cosmos governed by capricious violence. His dramatic films like ‘Kaash’ dealt with real-life family circumstances with a heartrending end. With such releases, he went on to become one of the outstanding directors of the decade.
During 1995, he turned into producing television series which was an upcoming field then. Bhatt tied the knot with Kiran Bhatt in 1970 and the couple had two children, Pooja Bhatt, a former actress and now a producer, and Rahul Bhatt, an aspiring actor. His second wife is Soni Razdan, a proficient film actress and director. He shared a special acquaintance with yesteryears glam doll, Praveen Babi.
