Dharam Dev Anand, also called as Dev Anand, is an Indian film actor, director and producer. Dev’s life is capable of phrasing a new meaning for the word ‘Stardom’. Such was his prowess.
Born on Sept. 26, 1923 in Punjab, he has over five decades of experience in acting and film making which makes him one of the versatile personalities in the Indian cinema. His career began with a post of military censor officer at Mumbai for a salary of Rs. 160.
Dev was soon offered a role in the movie ‘Hum Ek Hain’ where he met another great actor Guru Dutt. Dev also acted in a directorial venture of Guru for the movie ‘Baazi’ which was a crime thriller.
Dev was honored with the Filmfare Best Actor Award for the movies ‘Kalapani’ and ‘Guide’. His movie ‘Love At Times Square’ is considered to be his magnum opus till date. The plot of the movie contained a lot of hidden meanings.
Politically, he was campaigning against the then Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. He even formed a political party named ‘National Party of India’, which was later dissolved.
Dev’s autobiography was released in the year 2007 titled ‘Romancing with Life’. He has an array of awards to his repertoire. Some of them include Life Time Achievement Award from IIFA in 2003, Padma Bhushan, Dadsaheb Phalke Award and many more.
