Asin Thottumkal, popularly known as Asin, is an Indian actress-cum-model. Her unique name ‘Asin’ signifies pure, sans blemish.

Asin was born on Oct. 26, 1985 in Kochi, god’s own country, Kerala. Asin’s father, who managed several businesses, finally decided to manage her acting career. Her mother, Seline Thottumkal is a surgeon.

Asin completed her Bachelor's in English Literature from the St. Theresa’s College. After opting a career in modeling, Asin was seen starring in commercials like Colgate Toothpaste, Fairever Fairness Cream, Spinz Talc and many more.

Her debut venture as the lead actress was ‘Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi’, with which she shot to fame instantaneously and even won the Filmfare Best Telugu Actress Award. The movie was remade and released in Tamil by the name ‘M. Kumarran son of Mahalakshmi’, which was considered as her debut in Tamil movie because her actual debut movie ‘Ullam Ketkumae’ was released after a lengthy delay.

She acted in many Tamil and Telugu movies. Her Tamil movie ‘Ghajini’ alongside actor Surya was a chart-buster and she even won the Tamil Filmfare Award for Best Actress. The movie was remade into Hindi under the same title, where Asin was the female protagonist. This movie was Asin’s stepping stone into B-Town, which received her well with Filmfare Best Female Debut Award.

Her first dual role movie was Tamil film ‘Dasavathaaram’, opposite Kamal Haasan. She is a multilingual person, who can communicate in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, English, Sanskrit and French.

Asin has the distinctive credit of being the only Indian actress with a Blog-spot in French. She is a bookworm with a colossal collection of books. Asin also has the distinction of pairing up with almost all top actors of Tamil cinema like Vikram, Ajith, Surya and Vijay.
