Chaar Din Ki Chandni: The Review

Credits:

Director: Samir Karnik

Cast: Tusshar Kapoor, Kulraj Randhawa, Anupam Kher, Om Puri, Farida Jalal, Mukul Dev, Sushant Singh, Anita Raj Chandrachur Singh

If you find yourself watching ‘Chaar Din Ki Chandni’ this weekend just remember it isn’t a funny payoff.

The most part of Chaar Din Ki Chandni’ is fun with an irreverent mix of big laughs, yet what makes it lackluster is that it is closer to a comical farce.

Writers Amit Masurkar and Nishant Hada have perceptively authored some of the dialogues but sadly they are dumb, tasteless and unpleasant. The heavy duty screenplay has been peppered and stuck with boring and tedious clichés.

Moreover the comic situations are slob of slapstick gags that utterly overplay the humor to a loutish off-putting degree.

Kahaani: The Review

Credits:

Vidya Balan, Parambrata Chattopadhyay, Darshan Jariwala, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Dhritiman Chatterjee, Indraneil Sengupta and Saswata Chatterjee

Vidya Balan's maverick moves have been appreciated by one and all in the film industry.

Unlike contemporary heroines, Vidya is trying her hand at off-beat films, which now a days not only attract critical acclaim but ensnares moolah at the box office as well.

Vidya Balan
Producers of Vidya's previous movies went bonkers after the stupendous success of their respective films.

Her last few films have been trend-setters and myth breakers. Films like 'Paa', 'Ishqiya', 'No One Killed Jessica' and 'The Dirty Picture' have raised some eyebrows, offended others but mesmerized all.

What makes her achievement so endearing is the fact that she doesn't have any godfather in the film fraternity, nor does she belong to the clans of the Kapoors', Khans' or Bachchan's.

Jodi Breakers: The Review

Credits:

Director: Ashwini Chaudhary
Actors: R Madhavan, Bipasha Basu, Omi Vaidya, Milind Soman, Dipannita Sharma
Rating: **

Apart from an unconventional jodi, there were plenty of things that audience might have desired to see in this imperfect rom-com. Sadly though, 'Jodi Breakers' not only broke Jodis on-screen but also hearts of the audience who had to spend a significant amount to watch the film.

About the film
When we talk about a rom-com, chemistry between the actors is of paramount importance. Ironically, the chemistry fizzes out the moment the duo set eyes on each other.

Lead actors Madhvan and Bipasha look more like brother-sister forced to play a couple on-screen. Above all, how and why do Sid (Madhavan) and Sonali (Bipasha) become friends, business partners, and eventually lovers so easily remains a question unanswered.

'Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu' – The Review

Credits:

Director: Shakun Batra

Cast: Imran Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Ram Kapoor, Boman Irani, Ratna Pathak

In spite of the hullabaloo about the movie being directly inspired from What happened in Vegas, one can say that the film is made beautifully and is worth watching with your partner this Valentine's day.

The Story
Coming out of the stereo typical genre - of meeting, falling in love and getting married this film reverses the general equation.

Rahul Kapoor (Imran) and Riana Braganza (Kareena), almost strangers, unwittingly get married after a night in debauchery. They decide to annul the unplanned wedding and from there the real twist begins! It is during this time a cozy friendship develops between the two and the plot shifts from sizzling Vegas to Amchi Mumbai.

The Dirty Picture: Review

Credits:

Director: Milan Luthria

Cast: Vidya Balan, Nasseruddin Shah, Tusshar Kapoor, Emraan Hashmi, Anju Mahendroo

As promised in promotional trailers, Milan Luthria’s ‘The Dirty Picture’ offers ample entertainment and enough dirtiness in Vidya's brave and bold portrayal of the life of an '80s dancing star.

Loosely inspired from the real life story of Southern siren Silk Smitha, ‘The Dirty Picture' is so hot, you'll need to take a cold shower after watching it.

Story-line
‘The Dirty Picture’ tells the story of a village girl Reshma (Vidya Balan), who runs away from her husband’s house and goes to Kollywood (Tamil Cinema) hoping to become a star. She tries to get a role in movies, but is insulted by a director for being unattractive and useless.

Desi Boyz: Review

Credits:

Director: Rohit Dhawan

Cast: Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Chitrangda Singh, Deepika Padukone, Anupam Kher

Despite daddy David Dhawan’s expertise in farcical comedies and a team of talented actors known for excellent comic timing, débutante director Rohit Dhawan has chosen to make ‘Desi Boyz’ a predictable family drama, failing to make it an interesting watch.

Story line
Hit by recession in London and scared of losing their loved ones, two college friends -- Jerry alias Jignesh Patel (Akshay Kumar) and Nick Mathur (John Abraham) -- decide to become male escorts.

Jerry has a small, orphaned, school-going nephew Veer (Master Virej Desai) to look after, while Nick wants to marry his girlfriend Radhika Awasthi (Deepika Padukone), who dreams of a fairytale wedding, a great honeymoon, and a wonderful house to live in after marriage.

Rockstar: The Review

Credits:

Director: Imtiaz Ali

Cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Nargis Fakhri, Shammi Kapoor, Piyush Mishra, Shernaz Patel, Aditi Rao Hydari

Imtiaz Ali's 'Rockstar' is a contemporary film that’s a mélange of love, humor, music, drama, and heartbreak. However, the film leaves a lot to be desired, as it loses focus and wanders from topic to topic in an incoherent story.

The film tries to make a disjointed transition between the life of a 'Rockstar' and his love story, but writer-director Imtiaz fails to strike a balance.

Though the movie-makers attempted to create an altogether different sort of film, 'Rockstar' combination of love and pain reminds one of 'Devdas'.

Performance
One of the biggest stumbling blocks in 'Rockstar' is Ranbir-Nargis’s over-hyped onscreen chemistry that fails to impress.

Where Ranbir Kapoor is able to do justice to his role of a 'Rockstar', Nargis fails to impress.

RA.One: The Review

Credits:

Director: Anubhav Sinha

Cast: Shahrukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Shahana Goswami, Tom Wu, Armaan Verma

Anubhav Sinha’s latest tale, 'RA.One,' is definitely going to be one of the strongest films of the year for its outstanding visual beauty that makes it the slickest Indian superhero film to be ever made.

The defining virtue of this 3D marvel is that the film has a nice stuffing of action, explosion, fast-paced storytelling and brains.

Produced with a big budget price tag, this stylistically made film has been skilfully directed with overblown, dazzling special effects.

However, the film’s script doesn't come across as fresh as some of the plot devices try to go the Hollywood superhero films route like 'Iron Man' and 'Superman.'

Rascals: The Review

Credits:

Director: David Dhawan

Cast: Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgan, Kangna Ranaut, Arjun Rampal, Lisa Haydon. Chunky Panday, Satish Kaushik.

If you are a fan of David Dhawan’s style of comedy then you’ll love his latest offering, ‘Rascals’.

But,believe me it is certainly not David Dhawan's best. ‘Rascals’ is a haranguing, bad farce, jarred with recurrent running gags and sexual innuendoes.

There is a limp attempt of buddy comedy in ‘Rascals’ and the director has only managed to shoot two mixes of alpha-male slobbering on promenading bikini clad women.

Speedy Singhs: The Review

Credits:

Director: Robert Lieberman

Cast: Vinay Virmani, Camilla Belle, Anupam Kher, Russell Peters, Gurpreet Guggi,Noureen DeWulf

The title of ‘Speedy Singhs’ tells nothing at all about the movie with the exception of inference that it’s a cross cultural film on the Punjabi community.

This Indo-Canadian comedy film is funny and affirms many clichés that does remind you of Gurinder Chadha's 'Bend It Like Beckham’.

Perhaps ‘Speedy Singhs’ will never wear you out, even though it has strong similarities to racial sports comedy films like 'Bend it Like Beckham', 'Chak De!India', and Akshay’s 'Patiala House'.

Almost everything that ensues in the film has been designed to bring in easy laughter and tears.

Don’t go to the theatre expecting anything extraordinary, yet the film is charming and funny and also predictable and flat.
