Producer-Multiplex tussle fails to find a solution

Yet another attempt at negotiating the ongoing fight over revenue share failed to meet any results at yesterday’s meeting between the two parties.

The bad news for movie buffs continues as the producers and Bollywood owners failed to settle the revenue share at a meeting held yesterday at the Yashraj Studios in Mumbai. With neither of the parties ready for a compromise, this issue seems to be finding no positive ways.

In the meeting held yesterday, the multiplex owners were ready to present their idea for resolving the issue but the producers turned down the offer straightaway because the multiplex-owners did not satisfy the producers demand for a 50 percent share.

Instead, the multiplex owners proposed a scheme wherein the producers would get 50, 40 and 30 percent of profit share of the movie for the first, second and third week respectively. But the talks failed because the producers failed to budge as they demanded flat 50 percent of share for all weeks.

After the meeting, Producer Mukesh Bhatt stated, "We have to get back to old school to release films in single screen theatres. Now I will put my entire team to talk to various theatre owners".

It is quite clear now that since these talks have failed, Bollywood is now looking out for independent multiplexes rather than national multiplex theatres. The charm of single-screen theatres is all set to be revived with producers teaming up with single screen theatre owners.

But still, both the parties are at a loss. There hasn’t been any release for past 2-3 weeks now and with Bollywood even the multiplex-owners are bleeding.

As for the movie buffs, the exasperating wait still continues.
