Sonam-Dhanush in 'Raanjhnaa'
Directed by Anand L Rai whose previous outing was Tanu Weds Manu, 'Ranjhanaa' will be Sonam's first opposite 'Kolaveri di' sensation Dhanush.

In the latest flick, Sonam Kapoor will be shedding her image of young fashionista and donning the image of a Varanasi born, JNU student.

To imbibe the character, the Kapoor scion spent couple of hours in JNU to observe and comprehend the ambiance at the institute. The actress along with the director met several student and teachers in a bid to do a comprehensive research.

“At JNU, Sonam became familiar with the world of street theatre and got to know about the different courses in JNU that caught her fancy,” a source close to the flick revealed.

Meanwhile, Anand L Rai says that he isn't aware of Sonam's current image and doesn't even care to know. He stated, “I only see the Varanasi-born girl in her. We spent a lot of time in Delhi at the JNU campus. I think she will join a couple of courses there, as I will after Raanjhanaa.”

Sonam to shed her inhibitions
Sonam, who perceived and experienced Delhi's life through 'Delhi 6', is witnessing another aspect of the city through this flick. In a bid to prepare for the role, the Bollywood diva was exposed to street plays in the capital. Buzz has it that Sonam is also planning to perform in these open air plays.

“Nukkad naatak is something that opens up an actor, rids him or her of inhibitions. I want Sonam to shed her ‘sophistication’. I want her to feel like a girl from North India who travels by bus and cooks her own food in her hostel room,” expressed Rai.

On queries about the male lead's absence, Rai elucidated, “Dhanush has to take a week off from my schedule to shoot some vital scenes in Namibia for his next Tamil film. I decided to reach Varanasi and Sonam insisted on coming along. I am bowled over by her dedication and commitment.”
