Bhupen Hazarika in critical condition


Renowned singer-composer Bhupen Hazarika, who is admitted at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital in Mumbai, is in critical condition but is responding to medicines.


Bhupen was put on dialysis after his kidneys stopped functioning.

Not in coma but condition is critical
Commenting on his health, Jayanta Narayan Saha, in-charge of media relations at the hospital told reporters, “Hazarika’s condition is critical. He has infection and is on medical support and dialysis. We hope that he improves within two-three days.”

According to information provided by hospital authorities, the legendary singer is not in coma but his condition is not stable.

The singer’s health worsened on October 23 after he developed pneumonia. The detection of pneumonia was followed by a minor surgery in which a food pipe was placed into his system.

Hazarika was admitted to the hospital in June when he complained of breathing problem. Since then he has been in hospital.

Only living balladeer
The Padma Bhushan awardee is the only living balladeer in India.

Bhupen is also famous for doing a voiceover for the film 'Gandhi To Hitler' in which he also sang Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite bhajan ‘Vaishnav Jan.'
