The UP state government had impeded the screening of film with a two month ban on it. However, now the Supreme Court has given a green signal for the screening of the film.
Pleased with the Supreme Court’s verdict, Prakash Jha stated, "The Supreme Court decision should restore our faith in the system. I'm happy the hearing is in our favour. The people of UP will finally be able to watch Aarakshan.
“I'm glad I decided to challenge the UP government's decision to ban the film, rather than cow down to it. This has been an important battle in making right to the Freedom of Expression a real right for the common citizens of India."
Supreme Court’s declaration
The bench that cleared the ban on ‘Aarakshan’ stated in the order that such social issues can bring awareness for an effectual working of democracy.
“Reservation is one of the social issues and in a vibrant democracy like ours public discussion is necessary for smooth running of healthy democracy. In fact such discussions on social issues bring awareness for efficient working of democracy,” said the bench.
Jha happy with the response of audience for ‘Aarakshan’
Jha struck gold in his last stunner ‘Raajneeti’ and it now seems like his latest outing ‘Aarakshan’ is not far behind in accumulating pots of money, since the film is doing well at the box-office after facing a hurdle during the release of the film.
“It has been an unexpectedly tough battle to release the film... I hope no other filmmaker ever has to go through what I'm going through.
“I'm very grateful for the support of the audiences worldwide who have been watching and enjoying the film. Many common people have been conveying their support, and that is very heartening,” said Jha.
