As per tabloid reports, Shahrukh had landed in Mumbai on Thursday after holidaying with family in London and Holland, and he was arrested at the airport for carrying nearly twenty bags without paying the custom duty for them.
While King Khan was taken into custody for interrogation, his family was permitted to go home, revealed a source.
Talking about the incident, a source as quoted in Mid Day, said, "SRK had gone on a family holiday to Holland and London. On his way back he was carrying with him about 20 bags. Thus, the customs officials at airport interrogated him, while his family was allowed to go.”
SRK was slapped a fine of Rs. 1.5 lakhs
The interrogation was carried out by a team of custom officials headed by deputy collector, Customs, Sameer Wankhede.
Reportedly, Shahrukh was slapped a fine of Rs. 1.5 lakhs for the excess baggage he was carrying with him and was released from detainment only after paying the fine.
"Yes, he was interrogated but it is a routine thing. Whenever people bring stuff they have to pay duty on it. It was nearly R 1.5 lakh and the interrogation took time because he was carrying a lot of stuff," customs commissioner, P M Govande told Mid Day.
SRK didn’t get any special treatment from custom officials
It’s learnt that when SRK was taken into custody for interrogation, the custom officials treated him like any other common passenger and not like a film star.
The actor didn’t get any special treatment from the officials at the airport and was not even allowed to make phone calls for aid.
An insider revealed, "The customs treated Khan, no differently than other passengers. They didn't give him any special treatment. He wasn't even allowed to make a phone call."
