Just like the on-screen weddings, off-screen marriages in tinsel town are also showy and attention-grabbing.


However, while not all couples in the glamour industry taste successful marriages, their fairy tale wedding bashes, extramarital affairs, bitter divorces, romance and nasty breakups are certainly more entertaining than any blockbuster.

Celeb marriages are never devoid of glamour and glitz, but on the flip side, most of the relationships do turn sour in no time after the nuptials.

Incidentally, this year also saw some grand marriages in B-town. Here’s our pick of the Top 5 marriages of 2011:

Imran married his sweetheart Avantika
Bollywood heartthrob Imran Khan married his longtime girlfriend Avantika Mallik, in the beginning of the year. After having dated for almost 7 long years, the couple walked down the aisle on January 10.

The wedding had been a private affair and the invitees included only family and a few friends, who came to bless the couple. Imran and Avantika had a private civil registered marriage at Aamir Khan’s residence in Pali Hills, Mumbai.

Dressed in a light grey lehenga choli with a red border, Avantika looked radiant and stunningly traditional, while Imran looked dapper in a black Bandhgala.

Families wore traditional outfits designed by fashion designer Varun Bahl, while Imran’s outfit was designed by filmmaker Karan Johar. The menu for the wedding had been authentic-lucknowi-delicacies. After the wedding, the newlywed went on a three day honeymoon to Thailand.

Their high profile wedding-reception was a star studded affair, as Aamir and his wife Kiran Rao organized the reception party by calling the who’s who of B-town and biggies of the political world.

The splendid wedding reception, which took place on Feb 1 in Taj Land's End, Mumbai, saw Aamir’s friends and rivals gracing the occasion. The guest list included Salman Khan, SRK, Sachin Tendulkar and Raju Hirani.

Lara Dutta and Mahesh Bhupathi had a Victorian themed wedding
Lara Dutta and Mahesh Bhupathi exchanged their wedding vows in a catholic ceremony at the Sunset Point in Goa, on February 19.

The couple chose to have a Victorian themed wedding and the Mumbai décor specialists Dreamz Kraftz lit up the venue in the Victorian style.

Lara looked lovely and stunning in an off-white lace gown, designed by Elle Saab Erato with a ten meter trail, and accessorized the well-fitted dress with diamond drop earrings, whereas Mahesh Bhupathi looked charismatic in a black tuxedo.

While exchanging the wedding vows, Mahesh firmly referred to Lara as his companion, partner and best friend, while Lara was in tears when she expressed her commitment of always being his chief doubles partner.

Celebs spotted from the sports world and Bollywood included Leander Paes, Vijay Amritraj with son Prakash and Indian, Fed Cup captain Enrico Piperno and American coach Scot Davidoff, Riteish Deshmukh, Raveena Tandon, Dia Mirza, Priyanka Chopra, Celina Jaitley and Boman Irani.

Samir Soni tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend Neelam Kothari
After having dated for almost 3 years, model turned actor Samir Soni, who shot to instant fame with ‘Baghbaan’, married actress-jewelry designer Neelam Kothari on January 24 in Mumbai.

This happens to be the second marriage for both Samir and Neelam, as the latter was earlier married to London-based industrialist Rishi Sethia, while Samir was married to model Rajlaxmi Khanvilkar, whom he had divorced after six months of marriage.

The couple’s wedding reception was held at Taj Land’s End in Bandra, Mumbai.

The wedding reception that brought together stars from Bollywood and the Television industry saw Aishwarya Rai, Rani Mukherjee, Anil Thadani, Raveena Tandon, Karan Johar, Goldie Behl, Sonali Bendre, Shilpa and Shamita Shetty, Karisma Kapoor, Shahrukh Khan, Farhan Akhtar, R Madhavan, Juhi Chawla,Tusshar Kapoor, Arbaaz Khan, Sohail Khan and Sanjay Suri, TV soap queen Ekta Kapoor and her parents actor Jeetendra and Shobha and Mandira Bedi gracing the occasion.

Meanwhile, Neelam and Samir’s close friends Karan Johar and Hrithik Roshan skipped the reception because of a prior commitment made for a fashion show held by Shabana Azmi for her Mijwan project.

Gul Panag and Rishi had a traditional Punjabi wedding
Bollywood actress and former Miss India Gul Panag got hitched to her longtime beau and Jet Airways Captain Gurshwinder Singh Attari aka Rishi in Panchkula, Haryana, on March 13.

Their marriage, which had been a private wedding with only family and friends, was solemnized according to the Sikh ritual in a Gurdwara.

For the traditional Sikh wedding, Gul Panag wore embroidered pink lehenga designed by JJ Valaya and accessorized it with necklace and earrings.

After the wedding, the couple sped away in a Royal Enfield rather than a car, and following the newlyweds were 20 riders on 20 Enfield motorcycles.

Gul Panag’s close pals in Bollywood Purab Kohli and Eesha Kopikkar couldn’t make it for her wedding, while the rest of the industry was not even aware that the actress was getting married.

Kalki Koechlin and Anurag Kashyap chose a South Indian wedding
Bollywood actress Kalki Koechlin married filmmaker Anurag Kashyap on April 30, in Ooty.

Anurag, who has a daughter Aaliya from his earlier marriage, fell in love with Kalki while making ‘Dev D’, and after living together for sometime, the couple decided to enter into wedlock.

Kalki chose to have her wedding in Ooty, since her parents have been living there for three decades. The wedding had been a traditional South Indian affair, and was attended by close family members and friends.

Bollywood celebs, who attended the wedding, include Vikramaditya Motwane, Shahnaab Alam, Vikas Behl, Piyush Mishra and Anurag brother and ‘Dabangg’ director Abhinav Kashyap.
