Ismail accuses Rahman of award fixing

Ever heard of award fixing? Well that is exactly what B-town’s renowned music composer Ismail Darbar has alleged music maestro A R Rahman of doing.

Reportedly, during a recent conference in Nagpur, Ismail has accused Rahman of having bought the Academy Award that he won for his ‘Jai Ho’ track in Danny Boyle’s ‘Slumdog Millionaire’.

Ismail went on to say that there was nothing worth an Oscar in the track and there was some conspiracy behind Rahman’s win.

“I just don’t understand how the music for that movie won the prestigious award. What was Oscar-worthy about it? Nothing. I would have been happy had he won it for films like Roja or Bombay. He did not deserve it. And, I know that it has been bought,” said Darbar.

"Rahman is a very good businessman, he knows how to handle his public relations. I will yet again say that he has bought the Oscar. I have proof that Jai Ho is not his. It has been done by someone else. All the big film-makers like Subhash Ghai, Mani Ratnam know about it," the music composer told the Mid Day.

Rahman slams Darbar’s allegation
Reacting on the statement of Darbar, the Oscar winning musician who has made India proud said that there was no truth in his Ismail’s arguments.

The singer, who has been flooded with work post his Oscar win, quipped, “Oscars cannot be bought. It’s 3000 people... how can it be possible!”

Rahman's supporters
Speaking on support of the Oscar winner, Vijay Iyer, who is from Rahman’s musical crew said, “If someone says he has bought the Oscars, how does he explain his Oscar nomination for 127 Hours? We are all proud of everything that he has done.”

Composer Lalit Pandit said, “It’s sad if Darbar said that. Rahman has made us proud.”

Moreover, even Sulaiman Merchant said that he did not think that Rahman has done what Ismail Darbar has said.

Well, Ismail sure needs to learn to refrain from making false allegations on hard working people who make Indians proud!
