Hrithik Roshan was offered a role, played by South Superstar Siddharth, in 'Rang De Basanti' and...
Reportedly, Rana Daggubati, Abhishek Bachchan’s co-star in ‘Dum Maaro Dum’ has replaced the actor in ‘Department’, and buzz is that this is because of the recent allegations on RGV for leaking the climax of DMD via SMS.
However, Ramu denied the gossips and said that there was no problem between him and Abhishek, and that he had high regard for both Amitabh Bachchan and his son.
Ramu said, “Due to certain date hassles I am going ahead with Rana Daggubati. Department is a very high intensity action film and I strongly felt that Rana on account of his looks and strong personality will fit in terrifically into the role."
About the final cast of the film, he said, “It's too early to speak about the rest of the cast. So far, Sanjay Dutt, Kangna Ranaut and Rana have been finalised."
Comparing me with dad is unfair, says Abhishek
The junior Bachchan, who is on top of the world these days, said that what irked him is when his policeman act is compared to his father Amitabh Bachchan’s khaki-roles of the olden days.
“I enjoy playing a cop. Every boy grows up, playing chor-police. If you’re an actor, one of the things on your bucket list is that you have to play a cop,” said the ‘Dhoom’ actor, who has been appreciated for playing a cop in films like ‘Zameen’, ‘Dhoom’, ‘Dhoom 2’, and will now again play a policeman in the third sequel of ‘Dhoom’.
“I’ve played a police inspector in a couple of films. But it’s the script that has to excite you. And comparing me with my dad just because he’s played a cop too, in many of his movies, is slightly unfair,” he quipped.
He said that there was no comparison between him and his superstar dad, as he can never match steps with the mighty footsteps of senior Bachchan.
Playing ACP Kamath was a challenge, says Abhi
The actor has been very upbeat about playing ACP Kamath in Rohan Sippy’s DMD, which also stars Bipasha Basu, Prateik Babbar and Rana in pivotal roles.
About his character in DMD, Abhi said, “It’s a fun character. When I heard the script, I automatically gravitated to the character. He is very intense, but has a very wry sense of humor. It was a challenge and that’s why I chose to do it.”
Even though most of his recent movies have been a dud at the box-office, the actor said that he knew no actor who only gave hit movies every time, and it was acting that he gave importance to.
