Indian Media and Entertainment industry to grip $28.3 billion by 2015


After examining the growth of the Media and Entertainment industry, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the international consultancy KPMG announced that the Indian Media and Entertainment (M&E) industry is expected to have a growth of 13-14 percent this year.


The annual report by FICCI revealed that the Media and Entertainment industry, which comprises of advertising, films, gaming, animation, TV and print media, is expected to record 14 percent growth and reach the billion mark to touch Rs. 1,275 billion ($28.3 billion) by 2015.

"Overall, the industry is expected to register a compounded annual growth of 14 percent to touch Rs.1,275 billion ($28.3 billion) by 2015," stated the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) annual report.

Film Industry to grow gradually
Incidentally, it’s learnt that the television and print media gaming, digital advertising and animation are expected to have robust growth, when compared to the film industry that is still in the recovery process since the past year.

“While television and print media continued to dominate India's media and entertainment industry, sectors such as gaming, digital advertising and animation grew at a faster rate and show tremendous potential,” stated the KPMG report.

According to the report, television is expected to clinch a whopping 156 million by 2015 and the print media to secure earnings of $6.9 billion in five years.

However, radio will possibly perk up 20 percent per annum in the coming years, while films can supposedly bank $2.9 billion by 2015.

The report suggested that the film industry can get bigger by carefully planning cost and investment, increasing multiplexes and through interesting film scripts.

FICCI-Frames annual meeting on March 23-25
The report prepared by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) clearly revealed that the Media and Entertainment industry is estimated to grow progressively in the next three years.

It’s learnt that the full report of the FICCI-KPMG will be announced in the upcoming FICCI-Frames annual meeting that is scheduled to take place on March 23-25 at the Renaissance, Powai.

The prominent personalities who will be attending the forthcoming event are Hollywood director Michael Fink, James Murdoch, film makers Yash Chopra, Kollywood actor Kamal Haasan, Ramesh Sippy, Vikram Bhatt and Karan Johar, directors Shyam Benegal and Rakyesh Om Prakash Mehra.
