Known as serial-kisser Emraan, said in his recent interview that award functions these days are like circus, where big stars are pleased.
“If you see any award ceremony, they are pleasing everyone. There are three categories for every actor... it's ridiculous... and three awards given to music. I really don't want to be part of the circus. The whole industry goes and claps for it but I don't want to be part of it,” said the 31-year-old actor.
Emraan, who had won Stardust Award for ‘Best Actor’ in a negative role for ‘Murder’ in 2005, did not win in any of the award functions mentioned above.
Audiences' appreciation matters more
When asked whether he’s upset with award ceremonies because they seem to be only honoring big stars or it’s his disappointment of not being awarded even after being nominated, Emraan said that award functions never mattered to him as he values audiences’ appreciation over them.
“I have got my acclaim and awards from the audience… I don’t really see that (award functions) as something I ever really believed in. I generally don’t approve of these nominations,’ said Emraan.
It can be learned that Aamir Khan is well-known for not attending award functions even if he or his films gets nominated for the top honors. Even his filmmaker wife Kiran Rao had said while promoting her directorial debut ‘Dhobi Ghat’ that she might not be attending any such function as well.
On romcom ‘Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji’
Emraan, who's more famous for his serious performances than his missed attempts at comedy, also revealed the reason why he decided to work in critically acclaimed filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar’s first ever romcom ‘Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji.’
As per Emraan, he was taken aback when Madhur approached him for the romcom, but decided to go ahead with it because there’s a sense of realism in it.
The film is set to release on Jan. 28.
