After receiving rave reviews for his performance in Rajkumar Hirani's ‘3 Idiots’, Omi had a number of big screen offers lined up for him. But, none of them appealed him as this time the actor wanted to play a role that would be more demanding and different from the character he had played in his debut film.
When the prominent filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, who is celebrated for his hard line flicks, approached Omi for his first pleasantry movie ‘Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji’, the actor accepted the offer as he liked the script and found the role very challenging.
In a conversation with the media, Omi said, "I heard the script and I knew Madhur was behind it - and that was it; I didn't need anything else. I have full confidence in him.
"The problem is that everyone wanted to put me in run-of-the-mill-comedy stuff and I didn't want to do that. I wanted something good and well-written and that's what Madhur gave me; so I had no reasons to doubt him.”
Madhur’s ‘Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji’ also features prominent B-town stars Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi, and Shruti Haasan as well as novices Shraddha Das and Shazahn Padamsee.
Omi’s character in ‘DTBHJ’
After exhibiting his funny side in ‘3 Idiots’, Omi will now be revealing his quixotic side in ‘Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji’. The ‘Chatur’ of ‘3 Idiots’ will be seen romancing Shraddha Das, his co-star in ‘DTBHJ’.
Expressing his desire for novel roles, Omi said, "After 3 Idiots, I wanted to be very careful. I was getting offers, but most of them were roles that were very similar to Chatur. I didn't want do those. I wanted to take up something new.”
The film which revolves around the love stories of three guys is slated for release on Jan. 28.
Other films lined up for Omi
The actor, who stepped into the film industry with director Rajkumar Hirani's best-seller ‘3 Idiots’, is very much in demand today.
Omi’s hectic to-do list includes Reema Kagti's forthcoming flick that stars Aamir Khan in the lead role, Abbas-Mustan’s multi-starrer ‘Players,’ and Rohit Dhawan's ‘Desi Boyz’.
