Top 5 Debutant Actresses of 2010

Making Bollywood debut with some big banner film that can either have the potential to turn into a hit or atleast get one noticed, seems to be the key ingredients of getting started.

Total Filmy lists out the top 5 debutant actresses of the B-town, whose career started quite well in the industry, but will they be able to mark their presence in the industry is still to be known:

1. Sonakshi Sinha:
Sonakshi Sinha is the daughter of yesteryear actor Shatrughan Sinha, and it might not be wrong to say that her launch in Bollywood was carefully planned.

Sonakshi, who started out as a model and walked the ramp at the Lakme Fashion Week in 2008 and 2009, made her grand debut with ‘Dabangg’ on Sep. 10, opposite Salman Khan.

Reportedly, Sonakshi had doubts about the film’s success initially, and had even tried to walk out of it, but her family insisted her to keep the commitment.

Only Sonakshi, Salman and her parents can tell whether those rumors were true/false, but if they were true, then Sonakshi must be thanking her lucky stars as ‘Dabangg’ turned out to be the biggest hit of 2010. The film went on to gross Rs. 212 crore worldwide.

Sonakshi’s film career, most certainly, started out with a bang. Her next film ‘Joker’ is in its pre-production stages and she has already been roped in as one of the leading ladies in 'Race's' sequel.

2. Barbara Mori:
Barbara Mori Ochoa is a Mexican model-turn-actress and her debut in the Indian film industry can be best described as the “most-hyped-debut” of 2010.

Bollywood filmmaker Rakesh Roshan zeroed in Barbara as the leading lady for his ambitious film 'Kites', starring his star son Hrithik Roshan in lead.

Barbara, mother of 14-year-old son, immediately came into spotlight just few months before ‘Kite’s’ release, not for her performance, but for her alleged link-ups with married co-star Hrithik.

Tabloids even reported that Hrithik’s wife Sussanne had moved out of his house and their marriage was almost over. Interestingly, all these rumors disappeared once the movie got released on May 21, 2010.

Despite being promoted aggressively both nationally and internationally, 'Kites' failed to impress Indian audiences. Though it did manage some appreciation on international front, after the release, Barbara went back to Mexico.

Barbara's acting career kicked off with Mexican telenovela ‘Al norte de corazón’, and she got break in films in 2000 with comedy 'Inspiración'.

3. Moni Kangana Dutta:
Another high-profile debut of 2010 was made by model Moni Kangana Dutta.

After rejecting numerous film offers, Dutta made her Bollywood debut in filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s critically acclaimed film ‘Guzaarish’, featuring Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan in lead.

Moni Kangana’s modeling career started when she was studying in University of Delhi, and went on to feature on the cover of some of the most prestigious International magazines like Elle, Vogue etc.

Though it’s not known when the newbie will be signing her another Bollywood flick, Dutta has been selected as one of the six models for Victoria Secret, which gives her the distinction of being first Indian model to be selected by famous international lingerie brand.

4. Neha Sharma:
Neha Sharma made her debut with Mohit Suri’s 'Crook: It’s Good To Be Bad', opposite “serial-kisser” Emraan Hashmi on Oct. 8. The film’s story was based on the much-hyped alleged racial attacks on Indian students in Australia.

Despite being hyped, the film failed to impress, but some critics did praise the director’s effort.

It can hardly be dubbed as a dream debut for Neha in Bollywood (who apparently had better luck in Telugu cinema), but she managed to get noticed.

Neha, who did her Fashion Designing course from NIFT, New Delhi, started her film journey with hit Telugu film ‘Chirutha’ in 2007, and later in 2009 titled ‘Kurradu'.

5. Shraddha Kapoor:
Shraddha Kapoor is yesteryear actor Shakti Kapoor’s daughter with wife Shivangi and yesteryear actress Padmini Kolhapure’s niece.

Shraddha debuted with film ‘Teen Patti’, alongside mega-star Amitabh Bachchan and actor R. Madhavan. Though the film did not do well at the box-office, interestingly, Shraddha managed to get three-film deal with reputed Yash Raj Films.
