Akshay, the protagonist in the film belongs to a traditional Indian family that has settled down in England. While Akki’s father who is very conservative wants him to look after their shop; Akshay is keen on playing cricket.
The movie is all about how Akki being an Indian faces a lot of problems yet manages to play for the team of England. It’s leant that Akki’s character in the film is based on the life of Monty Panesar, the first Sikh cricketer of England team.
Ex -cricketers Paras Mhambre and Balvinder Singh Sandhu are among the cricketers who have guided Akshay on his looks and have trained him to perform like a real bowler, in the film.
While addressing the media, the director of the film Nikhil Advani said, “Every piece of art and creative process is inspired by real life. We did a lot of research on the lives of cricketers. But this character is not inspired by one person.”
Why Anushka Sharma opposite Akki?
According to a source Nikhil had cast Anushka opposite the B-town Khiladi because he wanted the audience to watch Akshay Kumar and his character more than anything else in the film.
"If Nikhil had cast any well known face opposite Akshay Kumar, the audience’s reaction would be different. Here they are clearly going to go in the cinemas watching an Akshay Kumar film but he wants them to come out of the theaters watching the character Akki plays.
“‘Patiala House’ is a film with real characters, real moments and real emotions. In fact, Nikhil has also decided to tag this film 'A film by Nikhil Advani' as it remains true to himself more than giving out any wrong notions about the film to the audiences,” said a source close to the film unit.

Directed by Nikhil Advani, the flick ‘Patiala House’ will be produced by Bhushan Kumar, Mukesh Talreja, and Krishan Kumar under the banner of People Tree Films Pvt. Ltd. and Credence Motion Picture.
Anuskha Sharma will be seen sharing the screen space with Akshay Kumar along with the veteran actor Rishi Kapoor, who will be seen playing the role of Akki’s father, in the film.
The film is slated to hit the screens on Feb. 11, next year.
