A. R. Rahman refuses to recompose CWG theme song despite criticism

After getting lot of criticism from every nook and corner, everyone expected that the Oscar-winning musical maestro A. R. Rahman might consider recomposing the Commonwealth Games (CWG) theme song.

However, it’s not going to happen as maestro had flown to Los Angeles to fulfill his other work commitments and had informed CWG committee that he will not be recomposing the theme song despite criticism.

The CWG additional director-general (communications), Priya Paul Singh, confirmed the reports in a press statement, “There is no change as far as this song is concerned.”

Reportedly, Rahman was paid over Rs 5 crore for the theme song and people were expecting something that could rival FIFA World Cup 2010’s official song 'Waka Waka' sung by international pop-singer, Shakira.

However, it looks like theme song is nowhere near 'Waka Waka' as whoever has heard it till date is busy trashing the song and Rahman for his lousy work.

Classical dancers too unhappy
It looks like CWG has more trouble on their hands than they can handle as six classical dancers masters on Friday told committee that they cannot perform on the tune composed by Rahman as it does not suit them.

The six classical dance masters include Bharatnatyam performer Saroja Vaidyanathan, Kathak maestro Pandit Birju Maharaj, Odissi danseuse Sonal Mansingh and Kuchipudi artiste Raja Reddy.

Meanwhile, after giving their inputs, all six dance masters are busy composing an appropriate song in coordination with Birju Maharaj that will be out in three to four days.

Bollywood to rescue?
After all this, CWG organizers are hell bent on making sure that the whole ceremony does not turn into a big flop show.

Apparently, they are considering adding some Bollywood component in the hour-long opening ceremony to make it a success.

“There might also be a performance by Shah Rukh Khan or some other celebrity,” revealed Priya.

She said that so far nothing is confirmed as the CWG culture committee comprising of Shyam Benegal, Javed Akhtar and others is still working on the final plan.
