AR Rahman's CWG theme song gets a thumbs down

Unfortunately, music maestro AR Rahman's anthem for Commonwealth Games, 'Swagatham' aka 'Jiyo Utho Heyo,' has failed to meet people's expectations nationwide and Games officials now want the 5 crore-track to be recomposed.
The song's online popularity stands nowhere near Shakira's 'Waka Waka', which Rahman famously claimed his tune would surpass.
In fact, critics have slammed the composition by saying the song has neither the pace or the punch of 'Waka Waka,' nor it is inspiring like 'Jai Ho.'
'Swagatham' faces criticism
'Swagatham' aka 'Jiyo Utho Bado Jeeto' is a mid-tempo song sung by Rahman with distortion guitars, bhangra beats, very 70’s style sitar riffs and a bit of English rap thrown in.
Ironically, the Oscar-winner musician took six-months and a hefty 5 crore to compose the CWG theme track, but it has received more brickbats than bouquets.
Ever since Rahman uploaded the song on social networking sites, fans and users uploaded several comments in their reaction to the theme track with most of them saying, “We expected something better.”
CWG track to be recomposed?
The games committee too seems to be unhappy with the public response to the anthem. At the launch of the song, Vijaykumar Malhotra, board member of the organizing committee (OC) claimed, "We expected a better song from Rahman."
Former Sports Minister Shahnawaz Hussain said, "I respect Rahman for what he has achieved but the track simply does not excite me. No one in the OC likes it except perhaps Suresh Kalmadi."
Leading composer Louis Banks said, “Rahman's work has always been controversial. But if you are truly inspired, it takes ten minutes to compose a tune. Given that it took him six months to compose it, something must have gone wrong somewhere!"
Hussain has now demanded a re-composition after Lalit Bhanot, organizing secretary of the games, insisted that people would start liking the song if they keep listening to it.
"Either it's good music or bad. There's no middle way to evaluate the appeal of a 5 crore track, he can surely re-compose it," he said.

It's only the trailer of what we r going to witness from 10/10/10 onwards. The OC has shelled out our money for their pleasures & how can one expect a world class performance from anyone. May it be Rehman or anybody. I Wonder whether Rehman worked with any soul for this song. As for he is concerned, a mere finger snap would create a sound that would earn him Oscars(though not of any importance for us). This anthem is a slap on the OC's face. There's no point in playing blame game. Request all Indians to rise up to the occasion say thank you to the OC & deport them out of India. Let's find a country where these guys can be treated properly and their souls cleansed. Apart from this wonder any honest tax paying Indian would be happy to participate in these games in any way. Sponsors are backing out, sports persons are testing +ve for dope tests even before the games, khullam khulla corruption....

I believe Rahman should have done this for free...after all India is hosting CWG for the first time and Rahman is a great singer from this country...so probably he should have done this for free... is it justified paying him 5 crore when many people are still starving for food and many developments are still pending in the country?????

Well....seems like the track has been done half heartedly....sounds like a Motor Cycle Ad Jingle...and 5 crores for a track...How come Govt has money to waste like that when there are Farmers committing suicides just for Rs 14,000 debt..People living in poverty...Lack of drinking water ..electricity...lack of hospitals for the needy...Is India Shining...I don't think so....and if Govt wants to build a Fake Image of Rising India then have the guts to do it like how China hosted The Olympics...Kudos to China..They have the will n the guts.....Can we imagine what 35,000 crores would have done for the poor n needy in this country...driving in a 50 lakh mercedes one would not feel how it is to go hungry bcoz there's no food...Shame shame !
