With 300 episodes, Tarak Mehta in top 10

Besides catering to different genres in comedy, SAB TV is unique for many reasons. It is the only channel of its kind to air just comedy shows.


One of the highly successful shows that are currently being aired is ‘Tarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashmah’. It’s a highly popular satirical show which has recently celebrated the completion of 300 episodes on SAB TV.

Based on the famous weekly Gujarati series ‘Duniya Ne Undha Chasma’ written by eminent writer Tarak Mehta, the sitcom not only tickles the funny bone but also forces the viewer to ponder on socially relevant issues.

Tarak Mehta ruling the charts
SAB has seen a jump in GRPs from 89 to 119. Its share stands at 8 per cent. The fiction series, ‘Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma’ has done well in Week 32.

The show is at No. 8 in the top 10 list, recording a TVR of 4.3. The other shows in the top 10 are, ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’, ‘Na Aana Is Des LaadoLaagi Tujhse Lagan’ and ‘Jhansi Ki Rani’.

When contacted Asit Modi, the producer of this stupendous show, said, “It’s a great feeling. It shows that how well we are connected to our audience. It has only been possible because of their sheer love towards the show. The credit to this success also goes to my entire team.”

Anooj Kapoor,the marketing head divulged to media, “Tarak Mehta has majorly contributed to the channel’s success. This kind of success to any comedy show was never received before. So we are working to get the show registered in the Guinness book of world record.”

Other channels on GEC report
According to the latest GEC report from TAM Media Research, Star Plus is at top of the list with 24 per cent relative share. Colors is at No. 2 and has seen a slight rise in share to 21 per cent.

Zee is back at No. 3 in Week 32, and its relative share has increased from 16 per cent in Week 31 to 18 per cent in the latest week. Sony, at No. 4, has seen a steep decline in GRPs, from 270 to 181.

At No. 6, Imagine has garnered a relative share of 6 per cent. It is followed by Star One, which has garnered a 4 per cent share. Sahara One and DD1 have garnered a 2 per cent share each, while STAR Utsav has 1 per cent.
