Priyanka Chopra appointed national green ambassador

The Environment and Forests Minister Jairam Ramesh on Monday announced in a press conference in the capital that Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra has been officially appointed as national green ambassador.

"I have been talking to Priyanka about how she can be a part of environment friendly campaigns nationally and be involved with projects such as tiger conservation and river cleaning, especially the Ganga river. I have said that this would be like her public service," said Ramesh while speaking at the event.

He went on to add in actress’s praise that "She (Priyanka) has been very kind and has given her consent for it.”

Priyanka was also present at the ‘Green Awards’ event, which recognizes people’s contribution towards saving environment.

Small efforts goes a long way
Priyanka, who was at the event to present awards, expressed her happiness at being appointed national green ambassador by saying, “I will be very happy to do so.”

She also added it’s high time that people understand the need to keep the environment clean. As per the actress, even a small effort to keep environment clean goes a long way.

“People might think that our country is dirty in any case, if they throw one waste paper out on the street how does it matter? But even the smallest act contributes,” said Priyanka.

She went on to add, "I would never want that my children or grandchildren don't see forests or not go for picnics in gardens. People should not throw tissues and garbage on the streets. Small things do make a difference.”

Environmental cause has Bollywood’s support--Priyanka
Priyanka added that now-a-days even Bollywood has woken up to the need of keeping environment clean. She revealed that earlier film crew did not care about the littering on the sets but these days they dump things in big bags.

“This is a cause that is close to my heart. My colleagues with whom I hang out also share my concern for doing our bit to save our planet from ecological degradation. As the green ambassador, I have learnt a lot and have incorporated some of its features at my home,” said the actress.
