Resul Pookutty at Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

A constant stream of accolades, awards and nominations have poured in from across the world, after Resul Pookutty won his Oscar for sound designing in 'Slumdog Millionaire' in 2009.

As a latest feat to his illustrious cap, Resul Pookutty has been chosen as one of the voting members on the jury attached to the prestigious Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences.

Pookutty on Academy's voting board
Pookutty is the first Asian sound technician to be a member of the Academy. He will be among 135 artistes and executives who have been invited by the Academy.

Among others in the list are 'Inglourious Basterds' actor Christopher Waltz, director Jacque Audiard of 'A Prophet fame' and 'U2' lead singer Bono.

The new members will be welcomed into the Academy at a reception at the Academy's Fairbanks Centre for Motion Picture Study in Beverly Hills. Elated over the news, Pookutty said, "This is a wider recognition of Asian talent and also Bollywood on a broader platform."

He adds, "It’s an honor to be a part of a decision-making process like this one. It’s giving me a lot to look forward to especially considering the fact that I’ll be in extremely good company."

Indian cinema and Pookutty’s varied projects
Pookutty has consciously chosen to work in India and is trying to balance his new found fame and glory in Hollywood.

Currently, he is dubbing and mixing sound for ‘Endhiran’ before he moves on to work for SRK’s 'Ra.One' in London. Soon, he will be back in Mexico for Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Hollywood production.

Satisfied with the work being offered in India, Pookutty feels, "I have a greater role in Indian cinema and the work am getting here is equally challenging in changing the landscape of Indian cinema."
