Lata Mangeshkar fondly remembers music maestro R.D. Burman

Dubbed as the nightingale of Indian music scene, Lata Mangeshkar fondly remembered musical maestro R.D. Burman, better known as Pancham, on his 71st birth anniversary on Sunday.


"It's pancham's birth anniversary today... i really miss you (Pancham) and your music pancham... you are matchless... yours didi," posted Lata on her Twitter page, reminiscing the days the talented musician created music that mesmerized listeners.

She added "I knew him from the time he would run around in his shorts. He was very naughty.”

Lata, as a playback singer, not just had the honor to work with the maestro but before him, she had also worked with his father Sachin Dev Burman.

Lata and Burman created some very beautiful and memorable songs together such as 'Bahon mein chale aao', 'Tere bina jiya jaye na', 'Tune O rangeele' and 'Tujhse naraaz nahin zindagi'.

Lata reminisces the days when Pancham was barely a child
Lataji went on to reminisce her first encounter with the young Pancham.

"He thrust his autograph book at me when I was recording for his father. Do you know what I wrote in the autograph book? 'Pancham badmashi chhod do' (Stop being naughty) He laughed and ran away.

After that, I didn't see him for a long time. He didn't stay much with Burman Dada. He loved his naani and stayed with her more,” reminisce the 80-year-old legend.

The legendary singer further revealed that they met after very long time “when he came to me with his first song Ghar aaja ghir aaye badra in Mehmood's Chote Nawab, I couldn't believe he had grown up."

About the great musical maestro R.D. Burman
Rahul Dev Burman (later came to be known as R.D. Burman), born on June 27, 1939, was the only son of Bollywood singer and musician Sachin Dev Burman and his wife, Meera.

R.D. Burman was also known as Pancham Da or simply Pancham. He’s credited for revolutionizing Hindi film music with his unique musical style and techniques.

Pancham married Rita Patel in 1966 but both separated in 1971. In 1980, he married singer Asha Bhosle.
