John Abraham was initially offered the role of Robbie in 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' (KKKG)....

With a huge budget and an ensemble cast of superstars, both the films had high expectations at the box office. But on the contrary, ‘Raavan’ and ‘Kites’ have not performed well and have proved to be a big disaster to the common producer of the films, Reliance Big Pictures.
‘Raavan’ and ‘Kites’ a big flop at box office
’Raavan ‘and ‘Kites’ have been a huge disappointment for the Reliance Big Pictures. The company has lost a whooping amount of around Rs 100 crores in the bargain. Their poor performance at the box office has been a setback for the company.
Earlier, it was 'Kites' which lost around Rs 60 crores. Now adding to the dismal performance is 'Raavan', whose box office start also looks bleak. It has become difficult for Big Entertainment to make more than Rs 50 crores from ‘Raavan’, including the Tamil version.
The critics have come down heavily on ‘Raavan’, and have highly criticized Abhishek Bachchan for his performance. Adding to it, Amitabh Bachchan is also unhappy with Mani Ratnam and has said that poor editing has played a spoilsport for 'Raavan'.
Even as critics continue to tear down ‘Raavan’, worst times continue for ‘Kites’. Big Entertainment has already sold the satellite rights of ‘Kites’ to Colors channel for Rs 54 crores.
Some hopes for Big Picture
As the company continues to incur huge losses, it is believed that it might affect the company's production plans in future.
Vajir Singh, Executive Editor, Box Office India, confirms, "I don't think this would be a huge setback for a company like Reliance. But they might go a little slow on production right now. Two failures, though huge ones, can't be such a huge setback for the company."

I totally agree with Amitabh's comments. It is not the fault of the actor that the 'scene' did not work. Only if you paid attention to what Amitabh said, you will understand it is true. That particular 'expression'/scene was originally intended to display 10 different faces of Raavan, finally ending with him uttering those funny lines. When the director realizes something isn't working well, he has the option to re-shoot those scenes, after all he took 2 years to complete it. Editing decision is not made by the actor. The actor does not put the film together. It seems to me that Mani Ratnam was not sure of what he wanted from the actor. I think it was Mani who had that 'funny' expression on his face when he was making those editing decisions. Blame it on Mani Ratnam, not the Bachchans. Amitabh has been in the industry for gone years, he clearly knows what he is talking about. Please respect the man's words.
