Sri Lankan cricketers including Kumar Sangakkara believes IIFA would transcend all barriers , social and political. It would help bridge and renew lost ties between the two countries.
The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) will celebrate the IIFA weekend and IIFA awards at Colombo, Sri Lanka, from June 3rd - 5th.
IIFA extends help to Sri Lanka
IIFA has a vision of building bridges across businesses, communities, nations and cinema, creating ‘One people, One world’.
Post LTTE conflicts in Sri Lanka, IIFA has lent a helping hand to the Sri Lankan government.
IIFA has organized charity cricket matches in Colombo, between Indian celebrities and Sri Lankan cricketers, to help rehabilitate former Tamil Tiger child soldiers.
It is one of the IIFA humanity projects which would help child soldiers to be re-educated, rehabilitated and help them by providing a better way of life.
Sangakara adds, “It will be lot of fun and lot of entertainment. It is also a very touching humanitarian cause as a village for 100 families will be built. It is a great initiative”.
Bollywood in Sri Lanka!
Bollywood has been highly successful around the world. People have taken notice of how big and attractive Bollywood is and how talented the stars are. In Sri Lanka too, Bollywood is a huge hit.
So, Sri Lankan cricketers believe IIFA is a 'big opportunity' to promote Sri Lanka in Bollywood.
Sanath Jayasuriya says, "Sri Lankans are very big fans of Bollywood and the film industry is very popular in Sri Lanka.
"I want the entire Bollywood to come to Sri Lanka. You are all welcome to our country and we will look after you with great care”, he added.
Kumara Sangakara is a big Bollywood movie buff and likes all the Khans. He even appreciated Om Puri and Naseeruddin Shah's work.
