According to MNS workers, they were not rioting but protesting against the 27 foreign dancers working in the movie because their work permits are invalid.
They also claimed that they had lodged a complaint regarding the matter with the Malwani police earlier in the day before deciding to protest on the film sets.
But the police arrested MNS men for rioting with armed weapons and unlawful assembly and said that more arrests are likely in the coming days after investigation.
Barely two weeks ago, MNS workers had created the similar kind of ruckus when they had landed on the sets of producer Ritesh Sidhwani’s upcoming film and halted the shoot.
MNS’s claim of police permission to take action disputed
The police officials did agree that MNS had lodged complaint with them claiming that dancers working in film ‘Angel’ do not possess valid work permit. But the officials denied giving MNS any authority to take actions.
However, Shalini Thackeray, secretary of the Maharashtra Navnirman Chitrapat Kamgar Sena, claimed that party’s workers not just had police permission but they were accompanied by the police on the sets of the film.
“Our workers went there with the police. We don’t know why they were arrested,” said Thackeray.
A senior police officer at Malwani police station denied the allegation saying, “They did not have any such permission.” He added that all the foreign dancers had valid permits with them.
MNS scared film crew with their antics
The director and choreographer of the movie ‘Angel’ Ganesh Acharya said that they were in the middle of a song when MNS workers showed up and started creating chaos around, scaring crew members with their actions.
“I was choreographing a song when the MNS workers disrupted the shoot. All our artistes have valid work permits,” said Acharya.
