Priyanka Chopra takes home the best actress award


Priyanka Chopra dazzled at the prestigious National award ceremony, held in New Delhi on Friday when she walked away with the Best female actor award for her role in ‘Fashion’.


Priyanka looked emotional
It was an overwhelming moment for Bollywood stars at the 56th National Film Awards for 2008 when three Bollywood talents won in the top three categories.

Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra looked her best in her thread work saree. The young actress looked emotional when she picked up the Best female actor award from President Pratibha Devisingh Patil.

It was her outstanding performance as a ramp model in Madhur Bhandarkar ‘Fashion’ that fetched her the award.

Responding to the question about winning the top prize, Priyanka stated charmingly, “It has still not sunk in.”

Arjun, Kangana Ranaut win awards
The award for the Best Actor was won by Upendra Limaye for Jogva, while the award for Best Direction was given to Bala for ‘Naan Kadavul’. Interestingly the Best feature film award was handed out to Bengali movie Antaheen and Hindi film ‘Rock On.’

However, quite remarkably ‘Rock On’ also bagged the award for the Best Supporting Actor for Arjun Rampal. The actor looked charming when he picked the award.

Abhishek Kapoor and Ritesh Sidhwani and the director and producer of ‘Rock On’, Farhan Akhtar, were also present at prestigious award ceremony and were looking pleased to see Arjun win the award.

Bollywood’s another incredible star Kangana Ranaut scooped the award for the Best Supporting Actress for her role in ‘Fashion.’ Best Play back singer was given to Hariharan for his rendition in the Marathi Film ‘Jogwa'.

The Best Entertaining film was presented to Dibakar Banerjee for this extraordinary film ‘Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye’.

VK Murthy: Dada Saheb Phalke Award Winner
Next the stage was set for giving the standing ovation to the person who won the Dada Saheb Phalke Award. VK Murthy, 80, was presented this honorable award. Every one gave a standing ovation to this legendary cinematographer.

Responding to the question about winning a Dada Saheb Phalke Award, VK Murthy stated, “I’d like to thank everyone I have ever worked with for this award as it is not my contribution alone that made this possible.”

Irfan Kamal’s ‘Thanks Maa’, fetched the Best Child Artiste Award for Master Shams Patel. While giving away the award, President Pratibha Devisingh Patil conveyed how the movie has shown the plights of street children, and stated that giving this award has made everyone become aware of the problem.

The entire function was hosted by film personalities Divya Dutta and Ashutosh Rana’ and it was their first time as hosts for a National award ceremony.
