Lahore a remarkable tour-de-force

Debutant director Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan has successfully weaved a griping tale by mixing sports and politics in 'Lahore'. The story ensures you sit up and take notice.

The film impressively doesn’t edge on the fact of which country is superior to the other.

‘Lahore’ that has the sport kick-boxing as its central theme can quite easily make the transition to become a favorite film for boys, with its generous dose of action.

The first half of the film does revolve around the real bonding between two brothers and their varied interests in sports.

Starring in ‘Lahore’ is Sushant Singh, Mukesh Rishi, Sabyasachi Chakravarthy,Shraddha Nigam, Nafisa Ali, Saurav Shukla, Ashish Vidyarthi, Kelly Dorji, Late Nirmal Pandey, Farouque Shaikh and Aanaahad.

Story-line
The film opens up with the final stage of the selection process for Kick-boxing that has to be completed. The scheming Minister Reddy (Jeeva) wants his favorite player to be taken in, while the Hyderabadi coach Rao (played by Farooque Shaikh) believes only on merit.

In the midst of all this there is Dhirendra Singh (played by Sushant Singh) who works his way up to succeed through merit.

However, destiny takes a different turn when Dhirendra Singh fights with his opponent Noor Mohammad (played by Mukesh Rishi) from Pakistan at the Asian Championship tournament in Kula Lumpar. And thus the unexpected turn takes place in the story.

To avenge for his family and country, Dhirendra Singh’s brother Veerendra Singh (played by Aanaahad) forgoes his successful career in cricket, after proving to be a state player, and pursues his brother’s sport Kick-boxing to participate in the Lahore contest.

Surprisingly at the ruthless contest between India and Pakistan, the Indian hero takes his vengeance on the opponent and makes his country and his family proud.

Winning is not the only thing that’s on Veerendra’s mind, as he wants to fight back the trauma he has gone through.

Bottom-line
Even though there is a certain amount disconnection in the plot, ‘Lahore’ is quite an interesting action thriller.

Despite the disconnection, the director Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan has brought out the shades of good and evil in the characters of the film.

It is refreshing to see Farooque Shaikh mouthing his dialogues perfectly well and the fighting spirit he moulds in his trainee.
