A FICCI-KPMG report shows that though in the previous year the industry suffered a slow down, this year around it will see an upside of investments in the digital delivery infrastructure.

Advertisement: key instigator of growth
Spending on proper advertisement can help the industry to grow stronger. As the national industry director (information, communications and entertainment) of KPMG, Rajesh Jain communicated recently emphasized that there would be upside growth in the Media and Entertainment Industry only if there is sustained growth in advertising.

With the increased spreading out of digitalization and convergence of new media there are increased chances for recording double the growth in the industry in the coming years.

Shedding some light on this expected phenomenon, Rajesh Jain quoted Aamir Khan’s '3 Idiots', which had concrete content with a ground-breaking marketing and distribution strategy that made the movie a massive success.

Today the FICCI Frames conference revealed that over the next five years the $13 billion Media and Entertainment industry will be increasing yearly at about 13 percent with expected net revenues of about $24.25 billion by 2014.

The report by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) also conveyed that there will be continuity of growth in the coming years.

The FICCI frames conference had famous attendees who were present for the launch.

Some of the noted ones include, Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif; Maharashtra Chief Minister, Ashok Chavan, Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Ambika Soni, Chairman & CEO, Fox Filmed Entertainment, James Nicholas Gianopulos, Karan Johar, Co-Chairman, FICCI Entertainment Committee & Director, Dharma Productions.

Amit Mitra the general secretary of FICCI stated that the media and entertainment industry represents the face of consumers in India.

He also conveyed, “It is a part of our daily life and touches maximum number of people. So despite the challenging last year, I'm excited by the potential of the industry to even grow beyond 13 percent per annum over the next few years.”

Speaking further on this Shahrukh stated at the conference that there are three basic essentials for an Indian, which is food, clothing and shelter.

However there is also a fourth one and that he feels is entertainment.

He responded, “There is now a fourth desire and that is entertainment and movies are a popular source of this fourth requirement. Another concept popularly emerging and posing to have a great future is sport entertainment.”

The various segments of growth in the Media and Entertainment Industry for 2009 to 2014 shows that Television from $5.71 billion will grow up to $11.58 billion, Film and Entertainment will go up from $1.98 billion to $3.09 billion, Print Media from $3.88 billion will increase to $5.97 billion, and Animation from just $71 million will pick up to reach $1.03 billion in revenues.
