Abhishek takes stand on Earth Hour

Abhishek Bachchan, who is earnestly backing WWF’s Earth Hour 2010 campaign, is requesting people to cut their electricity for 60 minutes on March 27th and promote Earth Hour.

He is also encouraging the public to switch off their lights in support of the energy conservation drive.

Abhishek to request film fraternity to stop shooting on March 27
Campaigns are always effectual and supportive, and this could be the reason why the Junior Bachchan is behind such a course of action.

He conveyed that he is planning to appeal to the film fraternity to stop their shooting schedules during the designated period.

He informed, “People really need to be educated about power conservation. I pledge my and my family's support to this initiative. I will, in my power, do whatever to save electricity and will request my friends in the film industry to shut down shootings in studios during the Earth Hour.”

This year Abhishek has been chosen as the Indian brand ambassador for the Earth hour drive, a campaign which started off in 2007 through WWF in Sydney.

The Earth hour campaign will be viewed across the world on March 27 from 8.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.

Abhishek suggests simple ways to save energy
Abhishek is hoping that a million people will take this vow and follow this drive. The actor is also going about putting forward some simple ways to save energy.

Abhishek has asked people to ensure that they also switch off the charger from the main switch as well, after charging their cell phone and not just unplug the phone as usual.

He added, “Switch off your TV from the main plug when it's not in use. Keep your car engine off while on a red light. These are just little ways in which we can do a lot to conserve energy.”

The Delhi Chief Minister, Shiela Dikshit conveyed at a recent event that 15 cities in Inida had taken the vow last year.

Interestingly, this pledge of support had led to the conservation of 700 MW of electricity in just Delhi last year.
