MNIK storms to top slot in Middle East

The well fleshed out Film, ‘My Name Is Khan’, has turned out to be the biggest ever grosser in the Middle East, having collected close to $3.3 million since its release.

Responding to question about MNIK becoming the highest earner, the CEO of Fox Star Studios India, Vijay Singh stated, “In other Islamic markets too, it continues to grow and has crossed over to non-diaspora audiences.”

He also added, “In Indonesia, for example, the film has grown from six to 14 screens and has seen a jump of 300 percent in week three.”

Shahrukh’s MNIK, had been appreciated to be the best and most mature film till date for its sense of realism, and is all set to open in Jordan, Lebanon and Syria on March 10th.

The estimated earning of ‘MNIK’ globally is standing at Rs.174.6 crore (($37.5 million), with the domestic circuit tallies at about Rs.102.2 crores and the foreign circuit playing off at Rs.72.4 crores.

The movie is about Rizwan, who believes what his Mama has told him – that there are only two kinds of people who do good things and bad people who do bad things.

This strong-willed man, an embodiment of goodness, has Asperger’s Syndrome, yet runs after the President of United States to convey a message that can get him back the love of his life.

MNIK stands at No. 4
MNIK directed by Karan Johar, is a film that is set in the post-9/11 period in the US. The characters in the film feel as close to real and linger on for long. Starring in ‘MNIK’ is Kajol, Jimmy Shergill and Sonya Jehan.

The weekend line up of top movies in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is remaining constant, with MNIK staying at the number four slot.

It is still vying with the Hollywood chartbusters, ‘The Dark Knight’, which is at number one, ‘Transformers’, which is at two and ‘Revenge of the Fallen’, ‘Spider Man 3’ and ‘Twilight: New Moon’ which stand at number three.

‘MNIK’ has already set a box-office record by earning around $3,635,000 in seventeen days at a stretch after it’s release in North America.
