Jaya Bachchan to receive “Lifetime Achievement Award”

Veteran Bollywood actress Jaya Bachchan will be honored with “Lifetime Achievement Award” in a special ceremony to be held in London on March 5 for her "outstanding contribution to Cinema spanning over three decades.”


The 61-year old actress will be presented with the award at the ‘Tongues on Fire’ film festival gala dinner at Sheraton Hotel in London.

Jaya Bachchan will be attending the ceremony with her actor son Abhishek Bachchan. The ceremony will be hosted by British T.V. and film actor Rizwan Ahmed.

The 'Tongues on Fire' film festival provides platform for Asians artists in media and films across the world.

Jaya’s journey in Bollywood
Jaya Bachchan, better known as Jaya Bhaduri, before marrying Amitabh Bachchan, started her film career at 15 in Satyajit Ray's Bengali film “Mahanagar” in 1963.

She became well-known in Hindi cinema with the release of film “Guddi.” Jaya went on to act in around 50 movies that includes blockbusters like Jawani Diwani, Uphaar, Anamika, Abhimaan, Sholay, Bawarchi, Chupke Chupke Zanjeer.

Alongside her acting powers, Jaya is also a well-known producer, writer and Rajya Sabha member. She wrote script for the film “Shahenshah.”

After marrying fellow actor Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya stopped acting in movies in 1981 to look after her family.

So far Jaya has received numerous awards for her work in Bollywood that includes Padma Shri, Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award and has won six Filmfare awards. Jaya is an alumnus of Film and Television Institute of India in Pune.

Abhishek to be honored at BAFTA
Jaya's son Abhishek Bachchan is also in news as he has been invited to open the 12th London Asian Film Festival—Tongues on Fire.

The handsome actor will also be honored by the British Academy of Film and Televisions Arts (BAFTA).

Abhishek will also be interviewed for the Academy’s ‘A Life in Pictures’ segment that covers the best talent in movies.

“This is a huge honor that BAFTA thought me worthy of and it is wonderful to know that I am only the second Indian film actor who they are honoring with this recognition,” said excited actor.
