Tabu releases Shaukat Azmi’s “Kaifi & I”


<strong>Mumbai, February 11 --</strong> Bollywood actress Tabu launched the English version of well-known theatre personality Shaukat Kaifi Azmi’s book “Kaifi and I” on Tuesday evening. The story of the book revolves around Shaukat’s late husband Kaifi Azmi’s life.


While releasing the book Tabu said, “Whether Shaukatji is considered a great actress or a literary figure or both, for me she’s always been my loving grandmom and one to look up to.”

“Kaifi and I” was originally written in Urdu, titled ‘Yaad Ki Rahguzar’ and has already been translated into Marathi, Hindi and Japanese. The book is translated into English to reach to a wider audiences. It has been written by Nasreen Rehman.

Event attended by notable celebrities
The event was attended by Shaukat’s daughter Shabana Azmi, brother Baba Azmi with Tanvi Azmi, Farhan and Adhuna Akhtar with their daughter, Zoya Akhtar.

Other attendees were Javed Akhtar, Kiran Juneja, Lalitha and Kalpana Lajmi, Jagmohan Mundra, Javed Jaaferi, Rakesh Bedi, Avtar Gill, Alyque Padamsee, Perizaad Zorabian, Shashi and Anu Ranjan and Siddharth Kak.

Abhi-Sonam should essay main leads in ‘Kaifi & I’: Shaukat
Shaukat revealed on Tuesday that she would love to see her book turn into a film. She has even picked up the main leads for the film.

"I will be very happy if my book is transformed into a film... The love story which has been described between me and Kaif Azmi, the way we spent life happily even in extreme poverty, would make a good film."

"Abhishek Bachchan should play Kaifi's role and Sonam Kapoor should play my character," said Shaukat.

Farhan to make movie on book?
Farhan Akhtar expressed his happiness over the release of her grandmother’s book in English.

“I am so glad that the book has been translated to English. Now unfortunate people like me who can’t read Urdu will be able to read this book. I have read a little and love it so far and want to read the whole book,” said Farhan.

Farhan even hinted that he might make a film based on the book.

“Once I read the book if I feel I can do justice a film made on it I might actually make a film on it," he said.
