Amitabh associates with the ‘Jeevarogya’ campaign

Kochi, February 8 -- Amitabh Bachchan on Sunday Flagged off the ‘Jeevarogya’ medical welfare campaign started by Resul Poohutty Foundation and Lakshmi Hospital in Kochi, Kerala.

Ironically, punctual Bollywood Superstar Amitabh disappointed Kochiites by making them wait for more than one hour before he arrived at Le Meridien.

After arriving, Big B said that he felt honored to be associated with such good cause.

“I have a natural attraction for anything medically concerned as every couple of years I have had the opportunity to spend a lot of time in hospitals,” Big B quipped.

Jeevarogya, is a program through which medical aid, support and free surgery is provided to the needy and poor in the state.

Big B’s contribution
Amitabh contributed Rs 11 lakh for ‘Resul Pookutty Foundation,’ a non-profit organization founded by Oscar and Padma Shri award winner sound technician Resul.

Big B lauded Resul’s efforts by saying, "There are very few amongst us who would have decided like Resul. Not living in the glory of his great recognition, he had decided to convert what good he can do towards his own community and the people."

Speaking about his decision to be associated with ‘Jeevarogya’ campaign Resul said, “The past year has been a dream run for me and from the time I won the Oscars the gate has opened for me to stand up and serve society in a large way.

The overwhelming warmth and love showered on me needed to be reciprocated in a relevant direction by bringing attention to worthy issues around me.”

Big B—the diplomat?
However, Big B was not very candid about his answers on the Shiv Sena. When asked about the controversial stance of ‘Mumbai for Marathis', he said that the country’s commercial capital "Mumbai is very healthy. It is doing very well."

The media also asked about his views on ongoing war between SRK and Shiv Sena, to which the annoyed Bachchan replied, "What has it got to do with this here? We are very happy announcing this wonderful program for the benefit of people of Kerala.

We are here to promote this program. Talk about this program. I think that we should concentrate on this."
