Aayirathil Oruvan set for a big ride

Chennai, January 18 -- Selvaraghavn’s much awaited magnum opus ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’ finally hit theatres last week. The adventurous film , which took two years to complete, is a complete diversion from the usual genres Selvaraghavn has dealt with.

A mammoth project, the director wanted to do something different and untried and that is how ‘AO’ is said to have happened.

'Aayirathil Oruvan’ is not a historical film but an adventure film made on the lines of Hollywood.

The film is said to have taken up a whole of 265 days of shoot because of various kinds of hazards the cast and crew had to face.

Story line
The storyline goes as follows. Government assigns a secret team, led by archaeologist Anitha Pandian (Reemma) and military officer Ravi (Azhagamperumal) to uncover a missing scientist.

Archaeologist (Pratap Pothen) who disappears while he was on an expedition to find out the lost Chola civilization has a daughter Lavanya. The daughter is persuaded to join the team with a team of Coolies led by Muthu (Karthi), an ill-mannered, smutty guy.

After many obstacles and dangers, the team finally finds the lost Chola civilization and its king (Parthipan), which makes it easier for them to unearth links of the earliest cultures.

Bottom-Line
This distinctive genre has unexpected series of twists as it unfolds quickly in the first half compared to the second half.

The second half which is a little confusing and boring, is also gross. One is advised to watch it only if he/she has an open mind.

Cast and Crew
Director Selva executed and conceived the screenplay wherein Ramji works on the cameras. Selva has also brought together the experienced performer Parthipan and the smashing Karthi of the Paruthithi Veeran fame.

They both deliver lines with incredible ease. Reemma and budding talent Andrea seems to do justice to their roles. The background score, composed by GV Prakash, is flavorful.

When we see thid film after seeing Avatar, you will be surprised and even doubt whether Selva had telepathy abilities to produce a film in the Avatar genre. But for the unstaisafactory handling in the second half, the film should be considered Hollywood standrad film. Selva should release the film after making some major modifications to make viewers to easily digest the story line. Otherwise the graet effert will go un recognised.
