The little blooper in 3 Idiots

Mumbai, January 12 -- Raj Kumar Hirani’s wonder movie 3 Idiots has proved to be one of the biggest grossers of all times.

So much so that this movie is going to go in the film history as one of the most successful Indian movies ever made.

This film is grabbing attention all over the world, be it in North America or UK. It has earned a staggering 2.1 million dollars in North America and 0.8 million pounds in UK.

Although Avatar is the biggest craze for the cine-goers this season, 3 Idiots is no less, because at least it’s talked about wherever released.

However, there is a small error in the movie which has escaped the attention of the director. An alert viewer can notice it quite easily. In the initial part of the movie, Boman Irani tells Aamir that the name of his elder daughter is Poonam, played by Mona Singh during her marriage. But in the delivery sequence where Poonam is giving birth to her son, she is called Mona by Aamir. The movie had a name change for this character which is quite perplexing.

Notwithstanding this blooper, 3 Idiots has earned the biggest opening taken by any movie in India so far. It has exceeded the first day box office earnings of Ghajni by almost 20%. Abroad also, this movie has broken all the prior records of Karan Johar’s Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Imitiaz Ali’s second venture Love Aaj Kal during Christmas holidays.

And this is in spite the 20 percent higher ticket prices this year in North America as compared to 2001 when Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham was released.

This movie will also catapult Rajkumar Hirani into the league of A-list directors in Bollywood like Yash Chopra, Ashutosh Gowarikar etc. Earlier, his success was only attributed to the Munnabhai genre of movies.

Hiren's picture

I saw 3 idiots yesterday. It is excellent and Hirani must be complimented for brining about the limitations of the Indian education system in a very interesting manner. One of the main themes of the movie according to me is “follow your heart” Only problem is that in movies, they are not always able to show all aspects of the problem. For instance, many people come to know what is their cup of tea(enjoy doing) only after they start working(In work, we have the possibility of discovering ourselves) and for many, it is too late by then as India does not have structured career trasnsition. “All is well” is not really so in real life. I have twenty one published articles on the subject which are on my blog- Make your passion your profession which also has quotes on the subject from bollywood, cricket, management and other personalities in the quotable quotes section.
