The movie that released world-wide yesterday has seemed to have garnered mixed reactions. Amitabh Bachchan, as always, holds the audience spell-bound with his heart-rending performance.

The storyline of Paa
Abhishek Bachchan plays the character called Amol Arte, an ambitious man who always dreamt of becoming a reforming politician. He meets Vidya (Vidhya Balan) in their student days abroad. They fall in love, and she gets pregnant.

However, they fall-out over the decision to keep the child or not, and while Amol Arte thinks Vidya has aborted the kid, Vidya decides to give birth to the child and also studies to become a gynecologist.

She as a single mom brings up her kid with the assistance of her mother (Arundhati Naag.). Fate makes Auro meet his politician father at a school function where this witty kid wins an award from Amol.

Sometime later when Auro collapses, Vidya decides to tell him the truth about his parentage. How Auro gets his estranged parents back together is what the movie is all about.

A movie that delves deep into the relationship of a father and son, Paa, directed by Balki, has broken new grounds in the history of Indian cinema by making Amitabh Bachchan play a 13-year-old son to his real son Abhishek Bachchan.

Along with astounding performance by Amitabh Bachchan, whose superstar persona is barely visible in the film, even actor Abhishek Bachchan manages to keep audiences connected with his performance of a likable politician. As for Vidhya Balan, the actress effortlessly impresses through her natural portrayal of a young mother with a genetically-challenged child.

The movie has been directed by R. Balakrishnan, who has earlier given us the lighthearted ‘Cheeni Kum’. Paa was produced by Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Ltd, which is in the recovery mode.

The lyrics are written by Swanand Kirke, and the music has been scored by Balki’s much loved music director, Ilaiyaraaja. The cinematography is by P.C. Sreeram.
