They are shows larger than life. They tickle our funny bone, play with our adrenaline, make us question things seriously or laugh them out, and also create everlasting impacts upon our psychology. So I wondered what is it really so good about Romance, Action, Heroism, Styles, Sex, Music and Creativity that allows us to put down money, time and virtually our own selves – for some 140 minutes in an air-conditioned room which won’t serve us the moment those 140 minutes are over – after all?
As if the above question was too tough to answer, the simple reply is that movies give us a kind of assurance that they show things which don’t always happen in real life. Even if there are real things in movies, they are dramatized or stylized for that X-Factor. And we also know that some of the real-life things which always find a dead-end in our hearts, like the brunt of Corruption, injustice, inequalities, lack-of-freedom, one-sided love etc. find a solid answer in films. Strange that such films trigger off a revolution in our hearts, and simply after leaving the Cinema Halls, we know that there’s a way out to our problems – no matter it may appear to be unrealistic or madly!
Freaks like me eat, sleep and drink entertainment. The reason to this attitude is that I believe in the power of entertainment. I allow filmy stuff to change my life. I am a passionate ‘Yes’ when asked that if films really affect the real lives of people. I believe that although the ravishing beauties on screen give me wet dreams, there’s something else in their smiles that teaches me something wonderful about women in general. I believe that the dangerous stunts of those well-built hunks give me an adrenaline rush to cross my mental boundaries. I know that a touching background score that maintains the fluidity of the visuals, kind of generates long-lasting punches in my memory about the emotion depicted.
But I know that everyone cannot be such a huge movie-fan, and there can be many more different inspirations in life than movies. And what such people enjoy in films is that when everything in real life becomes too much to bear, that 3-hour Pepsi and popcorn fuelled joy-ride soothes you and rejuvenates your senses to face the next scene of their ‘realistic’ lives.
So no matter if you’re an emotional freak or merely a freshness-seeker, you are generally aware of the magic in films that makes you a loyal viewer. And I’m sure you agree that there’s some hint of a Total Filmy person inside you in your life too!
