Indian films 'Sikandar', 'Samaantar' to compete at Stuttgart fest Text

New Delhi, June 16: Two Indian movies - Hindi thriller "Sikandar" and Marathi drama "Samaantar" - have been nominated in two different categories at the Bollywood and Beyond Film Festival to be held in Stuttgart next month.

"Sikandar" has been selected as a part of the official competition and would bid for the German Star of India award, while "Samaantar" is competing in the Audience Award section at the fest that begins July 14.

Bollywood and Beyond is Germany's only Indian film festival and the annual event acts as a marketplace for building ties between Indian and German firms.

Mumbai April 21, 2009: ‘Sikandar’, a poignant story from strife-torn Kashmir is all set to be screened at the 7th Annual Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) on 22nd April to be held in Los Angeles.

A co-production between BIG Pictures, the motion pictures brand from Reliance Big Entertainment Ltd and Sudhir Mishra’s production house CineRaas Ltd, Sikandar is a suspense thriller about an adolescent whose life changes drastically when he comes across a gun.

On April 16, Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (R-ADAG)’s BIG Pictures launched the official website of its eagerly awaited movie Sikandar, in association with BIGFlix.

About Sikandar
Sikandar is a suspense thriller about the story of a young boy whose dream is to play football for his national team. The story mainly swivels around his struggles and challenges but takes an interesting twist when one day on his way to school he finds a gun, and how his life changes dramatically after that. Sikandar has certainly got a good storyline.

'Sikandar' to be screened at LA's Indian film festival

New Delhi, April 10: Sudhir Mishra's "Sikandar", a suspense thriller about an adolescent whose life changes drastically when he comes across a gun, will be screened at the seventh Annual Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA), starting April 22.

Written and directed by Piyush Jha and shot in Kashmir, the 110-minute film is about Sikandar, played by Parzaan Dastur, who lives with his uncle and aunt in a small town. His life revolves round his foster parents, football, the new girl in town Nasreen and dealing with some bullies.

But life takes an unexpected turn when he picks up a gun from the ground. And thus, he gets drawn into the web of militants, power and violence.

“Sikandar”: Soul-stirring music released

BIG Music launched the music of its film “Sikandar” on March 9. Music director of the film, Piyush Jha, described the music of “Sikandar” as “a soul-stirring musical experience”.

The film, set to release on April 24, is a co-production between BIG Pictures, the motion pictures brand from Reliance Big Entertainment Ltd, and Sudhir Mishra’s production house Cine Raas Ltd.

At the music launch, Shankar Mahedvan sang “Dhoop Ke Sikke”, a soulful melody penned by Prasoon Joshi, and Mohit Chauhan got everybody emotional by singing an adaptation of the famous nazm, “Gulon Mein Rang Bhare”, a dedication to Pakistani poet Faiz Ahmed adapted for the film by lyricist Neelesh Misra.
