A few minutes into the film and the audience will be enthralled by the brilliant screenplay and performances in this story that brilliantly depicts the woes of the Indian farmers.

Written and directed by a newcomer Anusha Rizvi, ‘Peepli Live’ is a movie to fall in love with. The movie has proved that even a film based on rural setting, can compete with the biggies, if handled by the perfectionist Khan.

Coming back to the movie, ‘Peepli Live’ chronicles the tale of two farmer brothers, Natha played by Omkar Das Manikpuri and Budhiya played by Raghuvir Yadav, who are unable to pay back a bank loan and so, loss their land.

Left with no land and work, Natha learns that the government compensated the family members of a dead farmer with Rs 1 lakh and so, he decides to commit suicide.

But the story completely reverses, when a local reporter Rakesh played by veteran actor Naseeruddin publishes an article about the farmer. The story is then picked by national news channels and the politicians come under the nation’s spotlight.

The movie highlights the point that how a poor farmer’s situation is used by the media and politicians for their own interests.

The characters of the movie, who are mostly unknown to Bollywood, have given wonderful performances. Dhania played by Shalini Vatsa is the perfect wife for Natha and Malaika Shenoy and Vishal Sharma as television reporters are just made for their roles.

Rural India has depicted brilliantly by cinematographer Shanker Raman and the music lent by Indian Ocean puts soul into this insightful movie.

The movie gives out a strong message but it doesn’t hit the way it should as there is a certain humorous angle given to the situation.

It is a must-watch movie for all moviegoers and ardent fans of Aamir Khan.
