John Abraham's first TV commercial in India was for Cinthol. He was even the first Asian model...
You can just leave your brains behind when you watch Priyadarshan's 'Khatta Meetha'. The film has every bit of the director's stamp of sarcastic jokes and downright comedy.
Khatta MeethaDirector : Priyadarshan
Producer : Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd
Music : Pritam
Cast : Akshay Kumar, Trisha Krishnan, Urvashi
Sharma, Manoj Joshi, Makrand Deshpande,
Johnny Lever, Aruna Irani
'Khatta Meetha' is only good in parts for its share of parody, but doesn't claim to engage and entice the viewer.
The approving and cheeriest comment that can be made about Akshay and Trisha starrer 'Khatta Meetha' is that the film maintains the spirit and humor of the Mohanlal and Shobana starring Malayalam film 'Vellanakalude Nadu' on which it's based.
The film rolls on in a disdainful fashion only due to the story-line, which is too rambling, and does focus squarely on corrupt practices and bribing of the high officials.
However, Akshay Kumar is really funny. His insane turn as road works contractor in 'Khatta Meetha' guarantees complete bustling laughs, while Kollywood actress Trisha Krishnan take offs as a serious saree-clad honest municipal commissioner in a deglammed role. Her character in the film has nothing to do with comedy.
Story-line
The movie starts off with a common man Sachin Tichkule (played by Akshay Kumar), a road contractor struggling to make a living out of his business with none ready to support him. Sachin always looks for an opportunity to bribe the municipal officers to get contracts so that he can repair rut-ridden roads or lay new ones.
In the process of finding an opportunity to recoup his business, Sachin meets the sincere municipal commissioner Ganphule (Trisha), who happens to be his ex-girlfriend.
The most dramatic and affecting moment would be when circumstances made him to lose the contract, as his languid workers fail to cooperate and he's stuck in a crucial moment when he doesn't have enough money to bribe the high officials.
But somehow Sachin gets back his contract as his ex-girlfriend Ganphule pities him for his strangely pathetic condition.
Bottom-line
A decent entertainer. The film could have been better and bigger if it hadn't focused completely on one basic issue corruption.
'Khatta Meetha' is a family entertainer that banks heavily on some punching one-liners. The film only justifies as a laugh-a-minute entertainer.
