Sanjay, Bipasha’s ‘Lamhaa’ a reality based chaos

From the first frame to the last, director-screen writer Rahul Dholakia has taken a lot of pains to slot in real-life alignments of social conflict into the Sanjay and Bipasha starrer ‘Lamhaa’, a story that candidly deals with the terror-stricken Kashmir.

Lamhaa

Director: Rahul Dholakia

Producer: Bunty Walia

Cast: Sanjay Dutt, Bipasha Basu, Anupam Kher, Kunal
Kapoor, Shernaz Patel, Tejaskumar Shah , Yuri
Suri Pasha , Shalini Soni

Music: Mithoon

It’s an action packed political thriller of the first order made to date about the peripheries of conflict involved in the valley of Kashmir.

‘Lamhaa’, which has been made with quite an overwhelming passion, has a delightfully realistic treatment but the film doesn’t match up with the director’s previously remarkable National Award winning film ‘Parzania’, a film made on 2002 Gujarat riots.

Although an eerie quality and tension is maintained throughout the film, Rahul Dholakia seems to have attempted the impossible in this film, while dealing with the unapologetically cruel situation in Kashmir.

Story-line
The film starts off with an intelligence officer Vikram Sabharwal (Sanjay Dutt), who solemnly goes to Kashmir to unveil the mayhem that’s causing destruction there. This officer is roped in during the election season as there could be more terror and violence happening in the valley at that time period.

However, in the course of time, he comes across the residents of Kashmir, the terrorists, activists and the separatists ruling the state for their own political reasons.

Other than that, ‘Lahmaa’ also has a romantic angle that centers on Bipasha and Kunal Kapoor. The actress has played the character of an aggressive activist Aziza and Kunal portrays the character of an ex-militant Aatif, dreaming to make it big in the election. Both these characters are working on a solution for a better future for Kashmir.

Can these characters make a difference to bring the state to normalcy? The truth is yes. Watch the film to know the relevant truth.

Bottom-line
A common real issue, narrated with finesse. It would be a mistake if you consider ‘Lamhaa’ a political tract. The film does show more specifics on the trouble faced by Kashmiri Muslims and Kashmiri pundits.

The ensemble casts’ performances and cinematography does evoke interest to watch the film.

Sanjay and Bipasha definitely made it watch worthy.
