'Raavan’s’ storyline
The film starts with Dev Pratap Singh falling in love with a spunky classical dance teacher Ragini and after a brief courtship, they tied the knot.
Shortly, after marriage Dev takes up a new post in a small town in northern India called Lal Maati.
Beera, a mythical Ravana, is a tribal leader. He hides in the dense forests of Northern India and continues with his criminal activities. His sharp hunting skills frightens even the police officers from going into the forests.
After Dev’s posting in Lal Maati, Dev tries to bring changes in the town where Beera is the word of law.
One day after engaging into a fight with Beera, Dev finds his wife Ragini missing. Beera kidnaps Ragini and takes her into the jungle where he resides. Ragini tries every single thing to elude from Beera’s control but all in vain.
On the other hand, Dev takes the help of a local funny forest guard Sanjeevani Kumar, portrayed as Hanuman of Ramayana, to get back his wife.
When Dev finds Ragini, he asks her to give a polygraph test just like agni-pariksha that Ram had asked Sita to give when Ravana had abducted her in Ramayana.
But the twist comes, when perceiving the good side of a bad man Beera, Ragini decides to go with the hero of the movie, Beera.
Review about Mani Ratnam’s most ambitious project
Reliance Big Pictures and Madras Talkies film, ‘Raavan’ has been appreciated for its excellent cinematography by Santosh Sivan and V Mani Kandam as most of the movie has been shot in deep interiors of the dense forests and the mesmerizing music by music maestro A. R. Rahman, but the film fails to stand up with its much-hyped image.
The movie got thumbs down as the chemistry and dialogues between Abhi-Aish did not work out well as it normally does. Besides, many scenes were repetitive like Aish screaming in the movie.
The movie gets a big pause in its starting hour which makes the movie initially boring. Govinda and Ravi Kishen, who are believed to be wasted in the film, bring a touch of laughter in the middle of movie.
Abhishek and Priyamani scenes created an excellent impression in the movie along with their dialogues and act.
Though the characters were well-played by actors, the poor storyline let them down.
