Chance Pe Dance: a waste of time

So, the much awaited Shahid Kapur movie with the chirpy actress Genelia D’Souza is finally here. The movie has been directed by Shahid’s favourite director Ken Ghosh.

Chance Pe Dance

Mumbai, January 16 Director: Ken Ghosh
Cast: Shahid Kapur, Genelia D’souza, Parikshat Sahni
Music Director: Pritam Chakraborty, Adnan Sami
Production House: UTV Motion Studios
Run Time: 2 hours and 38 minutes
My Marks for the Movie: 5/10

The movie isn’t the enjoyable pop corn munching stuff like ishq-Vishq that you would have expected from Ken Ghosh. He does not seem to have worked on the script of this movie and that shows.

The movie seems to be an ode by Mr Ghosh to the famous biographies of many Bollywood superstars like how they landed one rosy day in Bombay and then somehow made it big.

Shahid plays Sameer Bahl, a struggler who also comes to Mumbai to realise his dreams of lighting the silver screen. But fate has something else in store for him as he continues to fail miserably in all the auditions attended by him. He works as a courier boy to meet his expenses. He is also asked to leave the flat in Mumbai rented to him by a Parsee landlord.

He is luckily roped in for a movie but it fails to see the light of the day. Meanwhile, he starts working as a dance teacher in a local dance school.

As for his accommodation, he gets a car for it, courtesy a lungi advertisement in which he worked.

Now, it’s the reality twist. Tina, played by Genelia, who was supposed to choreograph Shahid in the only film he ever signed, advises him to participate in a dance reality show, the winner of which will grab the role in the same movie.

As anyone would have guessed by now, Shahid wins the talent hunt show by reciting a monologue to this mother in his auditions. The movie does not have an exciting storytelling style.

The music by Pritam is hummable, if would you like to say so, but has not made it to the top of any music charts yet. Shahid didn’t have much to do in this movie, except showing his flashboard abs and dancing in the English rock style.

The movie is based on Hollywood flicks "School of Rock" and "Kickin it Old Skool". In the latter, the hero loses his memory while participating in a talent hunt as a kid and wakes up after a coma of 20 years. He is mocked by young kids at that time and again participates in a talent hunt to prove his dancing skills. In the movie, Shahid tutoring some spoilt kids some old dance moves just reminds one of this movie.

We will give this movie 5/10 and advise it for those who are big fans of Shahid’s chocolate boy looks.
