“Aloo Chaat”: A below average film

With an interesting title, Robby Garewal’s “Aloo chat” was supposed to be a comedy flick.

Aftab Shivdasani,Aamna Shariff, Linda Arsenio

Starring Aftab Shivdesani , the TV serial “Kahin to Hoga” fame Aamna Sharif and “Kabul Express” and “ Mumbai Salsa” girl, Linda Arsenio, the flick fails to do justice to the comedy genre.

The story deals with Aftab, from an orthodox Punjabi family, who falls in love with a Muslim girl Aamna while he is a student in the U.S. He fears to tell his family that he is in love, and decides to approach his father’s best friend for help.

Film suffers as it lacks freshness. As we have seen the same story, situations and tricks several times, the movie fails to hold viewers’ attention. Music by Mehfuz Husain, RDB and Vipin Mishra is good and few songs are truly melodious.

Kulbhushan Kharbanda as Aftab’s father, Meenakshi as his mother, Dolly Ahluwalia as grandmother and Sanjay Mishra as the uncle have done justice to their characters but lead actors, Aftab and Aamna, are limited to a few expressions. Aamna doesn’t have much to do in the film, except smiling every now and then.

Robby has tried to handle various sub-plots in the film but fails to create the magic. The film reminds us of Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s style of simple cinema, but the concept of Robby Grewal’s “Aloo Chaat” lacks spice, which makes it a tasteless flick. Some dialogues are witty and create some humor but, overall, the film is below average.
