Vidhu Vinod Chopra is one of the most sought after film directors in the film industry. A successful producer and director, he is known for his unconventional style and off beat works.
Born on Sept. 5, 1956 in Srinagar, Kashmir, Chopra had a love for making films since childhood. With the support and encouragement of his family, he went to study at the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. His first film was a student diploma film and it won a National Award.
Since then he has made a number of films which have been both critically acclaimed and commercial successes. His groundbreaking works include ‘Parinda’, ‘1942: A Love Story’, ‘Kareeb’, ‘Eklavya: The Royal Guard’ and ‘Mission Kashmir’.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra is one of the few directors who are passionate for making films based on original scripts. His movies always convey some message through his movies. His directions like ‘Khamosh’, ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’, ‘Sazaye Maut’, ‘An Encounter with Faces’ and ‘Murder At Monkey Hill’ contain deep meanings.
He confesses that as a student he could not speak a single line in English and learned himself by watching numerous Hollywood movies.
